Maybe they start the season with what they have: Chabot-Hamonic, Sanderson-Zub, Brannstrom-Holden?

Who else is there out there outside of the usual suspects (Weegar, Chych, Klingberg)?

That's a steep cost. I'd have Smith above Formenton, Greig, JBD, Thomson and Brannstrom.

Like giving up Pinto.
Its tough to say. I really liked Ty as a prospect but he was awful defensively this year. He's got room to grow and playing in front of the worst goaltending in the league (not an exaggeration) likely made him look worse than he actually was. But still, he's no where close to a slam dunk and I'd have formenton/greig ranked higher than him

Doesn't sound like NJ fans agree, they're not that high on him and he seems to have fallen out of favour, much like Brannstrom. Don't think they see him as valuable as we do with Pinto, Greig and Formenton.

I have to assume we were in on Marino, but I totally get why Pittsburgh would want Ty Smith over what we would've been offering. Maybe they would've liked Brannstrom but Smith has shown more at the NHL level so far
I'm surprised NJ picked him up though, already having Hamilton and Severson on the right side

NJ fans think Severson is on the move as he’s due for a payday soon.

I saw a fair amount of Damon at the World
Championships and he seemed a bit too gaffe prone for my liking.

Yeah I stand by my original statement. Toronto was desperate for a goalie and we still needed to send a sweetner.

I seriously doubt a team is going to take on Z's 4.5M without sending salary back. I feel like Dorion has shot his load on Giroux and Cat. Hope I am wrong.
Ewwwww dude, what the hell!

I hate to break it to people but as you're playing with salaries for the 2024-25 season you'll see that the numbers don't work and Debrincat is likely gone. Even with conservative numbers we are like $4M over if you project ahead and I suspect he'll be the unfortunate choice we need to make.

Not a fun topic to discuss now but let's call it what it is, Debrincat is a 2 year rental with a really tough decision attached to him at the 2024 TDL.
I doubt we get rid of him. We’ll start a phase of recycling bottom 6 players like Tampa.

I would go so far as to say that if Cat wants to stay, we’ll get a deal done.

We have so many young players coming up with ELC’s that we can sub in an entire third line next season if we needed to.

Sounds like Sens weren't interested in Marino's term.

Ya... I don't get it. He is a top 4 RD that could be a stabilizer.. If they want to move him in 3 years his $ and position played will be attractive on the open market. Chychrun is going to cost a lot more to acquire. Weegar will be more. I saw/see improving the D as a priority. Waiting to see what our D looks like .. will certainly dry up available options.

Hopefully the Sens did not blow their wad already.

i listened to the latest Wally and Methot and Marino’s name definitely came up as one of the potential candidates by Marc.

He must have been on their radar - it’s also always possible that they were asking more from Ottawa than from New Jersey.

We wouldn’t have given up a prospect of ty smiths caliber

Leaves me to believe JBD and Thomson aren’t that highly regarded by other teams and even ours as neither seems to be in the plan this year.

JBD especially as he was drafted 5 years ago and many drafted around him have more NHL games

They're still upset about Brassard.

Ty Smith is a good player...that's like us giving up Greig, Pinto etc.. Not sure Sens would want to give that kind of asset up..

I don't think the Panthers will trade Weegar,...so really what's left at least on the UFA market is pricey Klingberg...

Stralman is also available but not sure what he has left in the tank...

Maybe we can poach someone who wasn't previously considered available if a team is trying to clear room for Kadri

Well ty smith is definitely a better prospect than those two. So if they were on the table I don’t blame penguins for taking their offer

Seattle doesn't fit Kadri's contender requirement, but perhaps they could facilitate a 3 way deal by getting assets and sending Oleksiak (if he'd waive, he has a full NTC) to Ottawa?

Edit: he is a left shot but has ample experience playing the right side.
