Severson is undoubtedly on the block too guys.

I somehow doubt that the Devils intend to pay 9M for Hamilton, and then pay 4.4M for Marino or 4.2M for Severson to sit on the 3rd pairing. With 5 years left to go on Marino and 7 with Hamilton, I further doubt they're going to commit big money to re-sign Severson long-term.

I just hope that if his targets are off market Pierre will not make a move just to say he has found a RD... If you doesn't find your RD then go with what's you have, it's not that bad if we can actually have a good D coach, not what we had recently.

We only have one good RD though. If we don't get another decent RD this summer, that is asking for trouble.

I'm not a fan of giving up the farm for Chychrun and we can't give Klingberg term (I don't believe for a second he will sign a short term deal at age 29)....

Let us hope Weegar is available and that FLA isn't asking for a ton.

Hmmm I am confused. Habs fans told us Petry, despite his high contract and his age was worth multiple 1sts and blue chip prospects.
Everyone expects to get more for their guys. If you made trade proposals on tbe main board with the actual returns Debrincat and Marino got, inagine what the responses would be from Chicago and Pittsburgh fans.

I think this year is unique in the degree though; it's a big time buyers market, look at the list of UFA that were available, then there's all the teams that are trying to clear cap space, it makes for reduced returns. Another year and Petry probably could have returned a 1st, Fiala and Debrincat could have returned a bigger haul, ect.

I wonder if Montreal might be a place to dump Zaitsev after today.

1. They have a ton of forwards and no room for all of them.
2. Their RHD is: Savad - Wideman - Jordan Harris
3. Of particular note, they have Ottawa native Paul Byron. Who only makes 2.8 million in actual dollars, but comes with a 3.4M cap hit.

While I'm not the biggest Byron fan, he's not the worst two-way player on earth and his contract is a year shorter than Zaitsev. I think we'd have trouble dumping Zaitsev with two years left without including major assets. Taking back Byron only adds 300K to our budget (we already paid Zaitsev's bonus), and actually cuts our cap hit by 1M. It also gets rid of that second year so we'd liekly have to include something decent to montreal.

Better than trying to dump him on Arizona at a premium though.

Would be an amazing birthday present. If he does I'll secure seasons as a present to my self. 200 level looks like the move.
200 corners are awesome. Been there 20 plus years.

Happy Birthday pal! How many candles!

100% deal. No question. Byron would be a nice 4th liner - and better yet, his contract ends after this season. Deal, deal, deal, deal, deal.

After the market has thinned I’m not advocating for keeping Zaistsev, I just think with Holden and Brann able to play Rd, Hamonic and Zaitsev I think we can come up with something that can get us through the season.

Still think an upgrade is necessary, but im
Not into forcing something. Don’t get desperate

If they don't get a top 4 RD before the season starts there is always the possibility of picking one up leading up to the TDL. I would assume by that time that Thomson should be NHL ready & maybe JBD too. If Sanderson isn't in the lineup to start the yr he would be another addition to the defence after a couple of months. They will have some internal options if acquiring one from the outside doesn't materialize.

What exactly is in that post that strikes you as "blame"?
ok, If you prefer I'll write:
A man with the power to travel into the future was able to look at the Ottawa Senators' roster 2 months into their season. After assisting to one of their game he quickly observed and commented about the team's defence lack of depth by saying: "Shoring up our offense in such a big way and leaving the back end with a big hole in it is such a waste."

But you're not a time traveller and your comment is about 4 months premature. Maybe give the GM a chance to find the right deal.

BE patient
