Word on the Wild board is that Minny is shopping Dumba again.

It'll be tight to fit him in, even if we get rid of Zaitsev, there's no way we would be able to extend him, and the amount of assets to take him might be unpalatable, but at least he's an option? :dunno:

If Brown for Marino was on the table then I'm pretty disillusioned but somebody claimed JT Miller was being offered by Van, so I have no clue what to think.
Am I the only one who thinks Miller has limited value? Old, over achieving (last year), about to become a UFA - looking for a long, big contract.

Pass a doodle doo.

Trading Brown for a 2nd might actually make a trade for a top-4 defenseman much easier. The value we "lost" in the Brown trade is partially made up by the fact so many teams are in a cap crunch and can't take back salary.

If you're Philly, Florida, Vancouver, Vegas, etc.. you're going to have trouble making a trade that doesn't hurt your cap situation. Ottawa is much easier to deal with.

Who has cap space to acquire any of them?
Kane and Toews will be 50% retention so 5.25. Jones will be super hard to move even though he shouldn’t be.

NJ or Buffalo for Kane is a no brainer.

Toews seems like an Uncle Lou guy but that would depend on what they do with Dobson Bridge vs Long term

I don't really get JT Miller. I don't think he's that great, but then I look and he finished with 99 points like season, 9th in the league.
I watch a lot of Vancouver and I think he's worth the attention he gets. He's right up there with Horvat and Pettersson as their top 3 forwards imo. It's been pretty much 3 seasons at that production now, but I'll be interested to see how he does elsewhere as they rely on him a lot.

No way we can afford him past next season though

I also think that the Senators would want to trade Zaitsev too before making a trade for an RD or signing a UFA RD.

So here's what it *might* look like next year....

Tkachuk 8.25
Norris 7.95
Batherson 4.975
Giroux 6.5
Debrincat 10
Stutzle 10
Formenton 3
Joseph 2.5
Pinto 2.5
BOTTOM 3 3.2

Chabot 8
Zub 5
Sanderson 1
Holden 1.3

Sogard 1
Forsberg 2.75

TOTAL = 77.93

Needs: 2 Dmen and depth

I speculated Stutzle and Debrincat will get 10 each, I think it could be 9, but it also could be more than 10.

A also speculated on Sanderson - and it was a big speculate. Who knows what he'll get.

I figured we'd re-sign Holden again for the same amount.

Dunno what Joseph and Formenton will get, guessed 5.5 between them. Don't know what Pinto will get.

So...cap problems coming.

Sanderson's cap hit will be 900k this year and next, not 9 million. Unless I'm misreading your post.

Don't think Sanderson signs next year, and unfortunately don't think Zub sticks around next year either. I don't think we'll have a cap problem. But we definitely need one of JBD/Thomson to step up next year.

Oh, hooray! I f***ed that up!

Fixed...okay a little wiggle room. Still need to sign Zub, then at least prepare for Sanderson, then fill out the roster, but much better.

Wtf Sanderson 9m? 🤔
Yeah, misread. Thought he only had one year left.

He's a guy I can see getting hugely paid - exactly like Norris.

Some notes:

- Sanderson on final year of ELC next season.
- I think DeBrincat and Stü are a little high
- I think Joseph, Pinto, Zub are a bit low
- Still need a top 4 D and get rid of Zaitsev

It should work out to something similar to what you've predicted. I've run the exercise before and it always seemed to end up between 84-88 mil.

Next season is absolutely critical for our cap. If we survive I think we have what it takes to keep the crew together and be competitive for a long time.

Just have to watch acquiring guys on a big ticket and term right now if we want to keep the band together, Makes sense on why they were looking hard at Marino and chychrun

I don’t know the details of why the investigation was reopened. But supposedly the victim did not cooperate with police last time and now she is willing to do so. So that’s akin to new evidence coming to light (presumably) which allows the authorities to revisit a criminal matter.

The civil case is done and settled. But there’s no statute of limitations on rape.
The GMs will all be very aware of this spotlight.

You are arguing a different matter. My point was just that OP's thinking seemed to be that Senators management may have some inkling of Formenton being involved and be looking to pawn him off before everything comes out. Obviously the results of any re-opened investigation stand to have an impact league-wide.
I don't think the Sens try to sneak him out the door.

Gaudreau coming off 115 point season got 7 x 9.75 on the open market. If Stu puts up 40G and 75A this year he can have 8 x 10M but let’s be real, he’s going to get around 8.25.
I doubt very much that Stutzle gets 10M, I think he gets around 8M

I very much hope you're right, but I think Stutzle explodes next season. One side he has Debrincat, the other he has Giroux and he was already playing excellent over a PPG from center on with Formenton and Brown or whoever the f*** it was lol.

I think he's gonna get PAID.
