There are only Gucci outlet stores near cottages.

I know. Everything is weird to me I keep being told NHL players love luxury yet every time I see one not on game day they are wearing sandals and a backwards hat with a 20 dollar t-shirt. Or if they are hitting the course a 50 dollar under armour golf polo shirt.

If Brann and Zaitsev aren't locks, I really hope we can package both of them with a draft pick and somehow get a guy like Chychrun. Hamonic would get pushed down to the the 3rd pairing where he'll be in a better position to succeed. One of JBD and Thomson ought to compete for the last roster spot as well.

Chabot Zub
Sanderson Chychrun
Holden JBD/Thomson

Make it happen Dorion

When Sandy proves he can handle more than third pair, then move him up.
He said yesterday he started using a stick last week, but not totally comfortable yet with one hand defending, but says by camp should be OK.

That’s if we got Chychurn, but I’m not interested at current pricing.

I think this is how the defence starts the season & depending on how they do they should bring up either Thomson or JBD if Zaitsev or Brann become a problem & are hurting the team. Zaitsev will likely be in tough again since I'm quite sure that Holden & Zaitsev will be the shutdown tandem & get the tough PK minutes & shutdown minutes.

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Hamonic
Holden - Zaitsev/Brann

If we start the season with some combination of

Chabot Zub
Brannstrom Hamonic
Sanderson Holden

Is that not infinitely better than last years starting 6 of

Chabot Zub
Holden Zaitsev
Mete Brown
Pretty hard to argue it's anything other than demonstrably better. But is that really the low bar we want to set for ourselves? Last year's team was pretty bad so, what, we're better than pretty bad?

Going 4-15-1 in our first 20 games put us behind the eightball, we went through wonky goaltending, injuries and covid during that stretch but for the final 62 games we were 29-27-6, an 85 pts pace.

I think we were a better team than our record showed and we got a lot better this offseason. If Goaltending holds up and we stay healthy I expect playoffs.

Last year we had bad health, bad schedule and godawful goaltending for the first month and a half. I think we can get in the 90-95 point range, I just don’t know if that’s enough.

Not against bringing Subban for insurance on the right side for 1M$ lets say
Not a star anymore but was 5-17-22 and -8 on a pretty bad NJ team
Would have been 9th in points for us last year

JC is no doubt better but is he 2 1st and Pinto better?

Those 2 1st could end up being Lazar and Puempel but could also be Chabot and havlat

If we see we can make the PO at the TDL we can always go for a rental or a trade or something

Then there is always next summer

Next season is more for evaluate what is the best option on the right side

Yeah
And that's the problem
WAS was last to enter with 100 pts!!!!
Thats a 27 points jump

If the Sens can do better against the top 4 in their division, that'll bring the target down from the
nose-bleed level.
(They did win a few of those games last season, so we know it can be done.)

You’re not totally wrong, but Kovalev, Gonchar, and Dadonov were all among the bigger fish when they signed here. Honestly, those 6 guys might put us at or at least near the top of Canadian team UFA signings in the cap era.

Different players want different things and certainly being a basement dweller with a reputation for being stingy doesn’t help. All things being equal I don’t think any of us think Ottawa would be a top destination for UFAs but I also don’t think it’s nearly as bleak as you the picture you’ve painted… although I’m only joining this discussion now, so I’m not sure where it started.
All thoe guys signed at decent chunk of over pay though, and with the exception of Dadonov, in their twilight years.

It's funny to see the kerfuffle around commodities and luxuries being replied to someone I've ignored so the context is gone - but I can see that I made the right choice ignoring that person

The Sens are going into next yr with three guys who are healing in Pinto, Sanderson & Greig depending on his TC. They also have question marks in goal & especially on defence. Their top 9 looks solid at forward while there are questions about their 4th line. While I think they should improve their record from last yr I still think they will be a bubble team & fighting for a playoff spot right to the end. Injuries & maybe Covid again could be the key as to how well they do or not.

I think Batherson & Joseph could change spots throughout the yr as Batherson makes whatever line he is on a more offensive line. I expect a 25 to 30 point increase from this lineup, but they also need to reduce their goals against dramatically & get a much better goals for & against differential. They relly need to upgrade their 4th line & 3rd pairing at some point this yr.

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
DeBrincat - Stutzle - Giroux
Formenton - Pinto - Joseph
Kelly - Gambrell - Watson/Hawryluk

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Hamonic
Holden - Zaitsev/Brannstrom

Forsberg - Talbot

Curious as to your list of teams with more surefire goaltending.

In our division I’ll say Tampa and Florida are the only 2 teams with less concern over their goaltending.

Why are there questions about the 4th line?
They play what, 6-10 min a night? Is the question that we dont have a bonafied heavy weight meathead?
Even our D is better than last year.....albiet prob not stanley cup better, but still improved from josh brown and mete, no?

Goaltending will be more shared which is probably a good thing given the grind and forsberg has shown he can help shoulder that load.

The more i think about it the more I'm feeling better starting the year with what we got. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I agree that this roster at this time appears to be a bubble team and I expect they will not make the playoffs.

The major weakness is the D: The defence needs to be upgraded by adding a top pair defenseman to move all RDs down one notch.

In don't see Hawryluk playing in Ottawa; he is an AHL level player. Gambrell should be replaced. Hopefully one of younger center prospects can take that position (Greig, Kastelic, ???).

Kelly showed me last season that he can play in the 4th line LW position.

Watson is OK for this season but I would prefer a more physical player who can fulfill the policeman role when required.

4th line should start Kelly - Kastelic- Watson

Policeman barely exist anymore.

This is an excellent 4th line. High energy. Physical. Extremely cheap.

5 minutes regular strength and penalty killing.

They're a place holder. Not gonna lose sleep on these guys.
