Just some of the names I would cross off before revisiting Ennis

maybe the Weegar trade was the hold up to getting a dman

seemed like he was option A
Kadri, Bergeron and Klingberg still out there too. Those signings could be holding everything up.

I wonder if Florida is trying to find a way to offload Bobrovsky so they can sign Kadri? Kadri signing could be the catalyst needed to reignite the trade market.

Weegar for a 2nd and a prospect, make it happen Dorian
That prospect may as well JBD.
I'd stay away from Klingberg. I would like the defenseman we acquire to be someone who can be put out there in the last minute of the game when protecting a one goal lead. Klingberg is most assuredly not that guy.
We already have that guy in Chabot & potentially Sanderson.

i wonder if we could trade zaistev for hornqvist

Both are bad contracts, Florida saves 800k without having to sacrifice futures (if they have any left) and somehow upgrade their defense (cant believe i wrote that). We get rid of DJ's most ill used player and dont have to overpay in a trade for a dman or can use JBD/Lassi there which is already an improvement. Plus there is the added benefit of taking zaistev's two year contract and turning it into a 1 year contract with hornqvist

assuming we get to start the season off with our entire roster

Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
Debrincat-Stutzle-Giroux
Formenton-Pinto-Joseph
Watson-Kastelic/Gambrell-Hornqvist

I thought the same walking to work this morning. Especially if Batherson is out. We're f***ed if that happens, but I mean....might as well add a vet there.

Just hearing some rumblings this morning.
As per usual, could be nothing but will pass along anything more detailed as I get it.

Rumblings?

2) Nate Schmidt, 31, LH/RD
- owed 14.8m over 3 yrs
- good skater, good transition, good PP
- ample playoff experience
- could be available cheap

4) Tyler Myers, 32, RHD
- owed 11m over 2yrs
- big, strong skater, can defend & move the puck
- cost wouldn't be low, likely the toughest salary to accommodate.
- seems like he could take the longest to acclimate to a new system
I'd be fine with Dorion acquiring either of these guys.

Schmidt is owed less money than his caphit so that might be attractive to us and he's better than Zaitsev. He's been moved for a 3rd rounder in his past two trades but is a serviceable defender that can play the second pairing for us. We can probably acquire him for some draft picks, but the Jets could use some prospects as well. I'd move Daoust or Lodin for him. Heck Zaitsev for Schmidt might even be a move the Jets consider.

Myers is owed an extra $2 million than Zaitsev, and the main reason to get Myers would be so DJ stops using Zaitsev so poorly. I'd prefer this move less, but Vancouver might consider a swap because they're tight on cap space. Myers has a $5 million signing bonus next year so not sure if that'd work for us

Never thought of that kind of deal but I like the way it sounds even if its just to get rid of Zaitsev. I want to give Hornqvist a position in a scoring rolls and see if we can run 3 lines of scoring.

DeBrincat Stu Giroux

Some D trade options.

1) Jake Muzzin, 33, LH/RD
- owed 6m over 2 yrs
- big, strong, physical
- cup & playoff experience
- could be available cheap
2) Nate Schmidt, 31, LH/RD
- owed 14.8m over 3 yrs
- good skater, good transition, good PP
- ample playoff experience
- could be available cheap
3) Connor Murphy, 29, RD
- owed 17.6m over 4 yrs
- big, strong, physical, prototypical DFD
- most expensive but best option
4) Tyler Myers, 32, RHD
- owed 11m over 2yrs
- big, strong skater, can defend & move the puck
- cost wouldn't be low, likely the toughest salary to accommodate.
- seems like he could take the longest to acclimate to a new system

All 4 have NTCs, which likely means all 4 aren't coming to Ottawa.

Pagnotta put out a rumour that the Canucks thought they had a deal in place for Myers, but he killed the trade with his NTC. With his short contract and our need for a top 4 RD, wouldn't surprise me if we were the team trying to trade for him.

it does open up more options to us and gives a big bump to our 4th line either way which is needed (even if they dont play that much 5 on 5)

The NTCs are all 10 team lists, I am sure we are on some of them but wouldn't say its a given or likely that we are on all of them.

That's silly though - and I don't mean to offend. If Batherson is playing, he's a filthy set up guy who can also finish. We're talking 70+ points easily. You put him with Norris and Tkachuk without question and we never speak of this again lol
