Regardless if we sign DeBrincat or not who won the deal in terms of value?

Would you rather have 7 + 39 or DeBrincat for your team?

I don't think there was a clear winner. Fair trade all around given we paid and the Hawks received market value.

Since our management didn’t love the 2022 draft it was a given we were moving our 7OA. . Basically traded what they projected as a future 3rd liner, a long shot 2nd rounder fand a lottery ticket or Debrincat. Maybe our scouts misjudged this draft but if they were right it’s a steal.

I’m guessing a trade goes down for a dman sometime in the next 48 hrs.

Thank you. Your response gave me all the info I needed to know

If you want to pretend this wasn't a heavily slanted market in favour of buyers, I don't know what to tell you.

I like the trade and I think it was a smart move to make, but the people who thought Chicago got ripped off clearly don't understand the market dynamics which led to almost every good player being traded for less than expected.

What do the market dynamics matter? We got debrincat and gave up very little.

As. A fan of the Ottawa senators the market dynamics mean essentially zero to me.

When it comes down to who to keep....it's a question we can't answer now. First of all, we have to find out how all these new pieces fit on the team. And, the players themselves have to decide how long they want to be here. And both sides need to agree on a salary range.

This team may look very different in 3 years time.

I honestly think you are incapable of writing anything positive about the Sens and especially Dorion.

You are becoming worse than that old poster FolignoQuantumLeap who seems to have taken off from here thankfully

Ya, there's certainly that in play but I think there's also some video game management going on.

Alternatively the people who think Chicago got ripped off understand that they didn't need to trade DeBrincat at that specific moment and had the flexibility to wait it out till the market becomes more favourable.

I'm quite sure if we had decided to trade Tkachuck or Chabot at the draft and gotten a buyer's market return, you'd be first in line to say we got ripped off. DeBrincat wanted to stick around, he didn't have one foot out the door and was yong enough to be a part of a post rebuild future for them,

I'd also note that taking a 6.5M X 2 years bridge then a 10M X 8 year long term contract basically gives Timmy the same annual salary structure as Brady/Norris/Chabot from year 1-8.

Every year forward will have one or two players signing 10M contracts so eventually we'll have a team with one with the cup. Assuming the cap continues to go up and doesn't stall/have another lock out and cap drops.

Every time I look back 3 or 4 years I am amazed by all the changes that have occurred.

I wish.

I honestly believe we are going into next year with our current group and we hope one of JBD or Thomson force their way into the NHL team.
I am thinking the same thing as it is now 22 August and most trades would have occurred by now so the teams can form their rosters for next season and the players have time to move their families to new cities.

I think demand was low due to many teams being at the salary cap. I also think some teams wanted to change their rosters and thus were more willing to trade now rather than wait, meaning there was a large supply of players potentially available.

I doubt that it happens.

Similar to what my source said, we’re in the dog days of summer, I don’t think anything gets done until players started reporting to teams.

I’m not saying that Chychrun is asking to be traded, but if there is any hostility/negatively with him returning to the Coyotes, training camp is your artificial deadline to do something.

It doesn’t mean something won’t get done, but those season milestones usually ramp up the pressure.

Not sure how to feel about Chychrun. I'm not sure he's "the guy". He's basically a LD that had to switch to RD due to circumstances. He's played a lot longer and better at LD with RDs like Goligowski as an example. It might be better for Dorion to stay away and look for other alternatives, and even more so based on the rumored ask.

There might not be a lot of/any available alternatives that fit the bill.

The person or people that think we didn't get a steal in the Debrincat trade would by crying if we traded Debrincat for those exact same assets.

Conversely, If Detroit used their 8th pick plus the same assets we gave up to get Debrincat, we'd be Enduring a summer long storm about what a great deal Yzerman got and how we should have beaten it with our 7th pick.

Well yes, there isn't a bountiful supply of RDs typically. Could be some other alternatives though if they keep digging.

Lots of different considerations and factors at play here. If there's some pressure or urgency to get a RD to start the season, I can see both negative and positive outcomes just as easily. It would be nice to hear how they evaluate JBD & Thomson because patience can pay dividends, and that would fit the cap situation. Maybe they aren't that high on those two though.
