This has been one of our best offseasons I can remember. I guess the Yashin trade might have been more satisfying because of the overall desire to move on from him but from a purely on ice perspective we did a lot of good this offseason and I can't think of a year that matches up.

The difference between last years opening night roster and this years is going to be huge.

Out: C.Brown, N.Paul, White, Tierney, Ennis, Sanford, J.Brown, MDZ, Mete, Murray, Gustavsson

IN: DeBrincat, Giroux, Joseph, Sanderson, Hamonic, Talbot

Then there are guys that were on the roster but not fully integrated like Brannstrom, and Pinto who should be regulars, and guys like JBD, Thomson, Kelly, Kastelic Crookshank and Sokolov that should be ready to fill out the bottom half of the roster instead of guys like Shaw

Paul and C.Brown are good players and will be missed, but we shouldn't have any issues filling the void with the guys we've added.
I vividly remember the Yashin trade. I had been lamenting all season that the Sens needed someone like Chara. I kept going on and on about Chara.
I had just gotten married and was driving with my wife to the airport for our honeymoon when the news broke of the trade. I explained to her who Spezza was and how awesome it will be to have Chara.
I was thinking that this summer was very similar. Fun to be excited about hockey again.

Going to have a hard time fitting any one >4M long term under the salary cap, not even budget, in 2 years even without Zaitsevs money if we are resigning Zub, Stutzle and DeBrincat to 3-5M raises eazch.
Debrincat is not getting $9M current year salary plus another $5M = $14M. Not even $6.4M AAV + $5M - $11.4M. Maybe $7M-$9M AAV to retain. Likely traded if he asks for more than $8M.
I think people need to realize that DJ coaches according to the roster to maximize wins. With better players now in the mix, I’d expect Branny to be allowed to have more freedom because the players surrounding him are better.
This is my hope anyway.
I think DJ played Brannstrom more because Chabot was injured. His TOI will go down with Chabot healthy and Sanderson joining the firm.

Based on my extensive experience of accidental likes
Kind of like my accidentally hitting the buy button on occasion.

So for Brannstrom it's this year that counts, but for Ty Smith, his rookie year is the one to look to, gotcha, that makes perfect sense.

Grass is always greener I guess.
No, you didn’t follow conversation, Hale said last year he had X points, I corrected poster and said that was 2 years ago. Last year he had Y.

My 3-5M range was simply to include the range of raises from Stutzle to DeBrincat. I wasn't in any way implying all 3 had the potential for 5M AAV raises.

Stutzle is obviously going to garner a range in that 5M from his 3.4M AAV.
DeBrincat will maybe get a little less than 3M but these are all ball parks. He's definitely going to have an AAV of at least 8M if he goes for 8 years.
Zub will also easily garner 3M AAV in raise.

I'm only talking in AAV as I'm worried about the salary cap constraints next year. Diving into annual salaries would make this even more convoluted than is worth the exercise from a fan standpoint with no inside information.

Still with 5 ELCs, a goalie making league minimum, and minimal bridging to our RFAs, we're still over the cap by about 1.5M if we resign everyone to modest long term extensions.

Can we see Zub/DeBrincat/Stutzle take 0.5M less each? Maybe if we sign Zub to 8 years we can get his cap hit to 4.5M. Or we manage to dump Zaitsev but that still would give us with 3M for a top 4 D until 4.5M dead cap comes off in 2024.

Could they be asking for Greig or Pinto? Is that the hold up? I can't understand them not taking the 2023 1st and some extras and calling it a day. Don't make Greig or Pinto be the holdup. #freeChychun

I know we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves, but seeing as how we have 2 years of Sanderson on ELC, Batherson on a great contract, and one of, if not the best top 9 in the league, it almost feels like we need to strike while the iron is hot.

Plus I feel like while there are a lot of other great teams, there aren't really any "super teams": Tampa lost McD and Palat, Colorado lost Kadri and Burakovsky, Florida lost Weegar and slightly downgraded at wing.

Oh, I followed the conversation.

You said Brannstrom never had a season like Smith's rookie season. Hale stated what he had last season (as the previous one not this seasons that just finished, so 20-21) and compared it to Smith's rookie season, which was also the previous season (20-21). He was pointing out that their production was similar both last year and this year in terms of pace. He directly compared them year to year in response to you claiming he'd never been close.

You then commented on Brannstrom's followup year (this year), not mentioning Smith's season also regressing statistically. So for Smith, you've focused on the 2020-21 season, and for Brannstrom the 2021-22 season.

You keep saying it was two years ago, trying to create the impression of distance like it was a long time ago. It was the previous season. You wouldn't talk about 2021-22 as though it was a whole year ago, so why use that type of framing for the 2020-21 season? Heck, it's worth noting that none of the 20-21 season was 2 years ago, and Brannstrom played 0 games of that season in the 2020 calendar year, the first game he played that season was less than a year and a half ago.

Semantics , last season to me means, you know, the last season that was played.
And you made up this part,”
lin response to you claiming he'd never been close.”

And tbh I don’t even really care, as it never happened.

Apologies, it was another poster he initially replied to that made the claim he wasn't close, I should not have attributed that to you, but it was what spurred the discussion.

It was clear what Hale was getting at when following the discussion, you decided to claim he was wrong but as you say, it was semantics and you misinterpreted his meaning.

We’re going to get Chychrun, it’s just a matter of time and fine print. (And Zaitsev)

PD has the blessing to spend, both dollars and assets. If it comes down to it, I think the ‘23 & ‘24 1st will be offered up for Chychrun. Grieg and Pinto are going nowhere.

It might not be until mid season but it’s definitely happening. Im worried that getting Chykrun means we let Zub walk.

He signed a 1 year deal with the Habs
Fake news from July 23 when someone on Habs Twitter got a little cute.

The way NJD fans defend him on these boards though, makes me think he still has enough juice to be a good #5-6D with upside and would work great as a locker room guy + mentor.

Hold up on Chychrun trade is Zaitsev. If he decided to waive, or if he gets dealt elsewhere, Chychrun will be an Ottawa Senator 100%

If this is in fact the case then this would be a relevant factor:

Based on pure speculation, it is possible that the Sens have two tentative deals in place with Arizona to acquire Chychrun. The first would include Zaitsev and be conditional on him permitting the trade based on his M-NTC. The second would be a trade that doesn't include Zaitsev in the deal.

If this is the case then the Sens have likely asked Zaitsev to waive his M-NTC and he has the remainder of this weekend to decide. If he decides against waiving then the Sens could quite possibly buy out his contract and then make that second trade for Chychrun.

This would mean that such a trade could be completed by Wednesday, if not earlier. The Sens could technically wait until the end of the buyout period to make that final decision or they could be ready to pull the trigger as soon as the 2nd buyout window opens on Monday.

Should just tell him he's going to Belleville if he wont waive.

The irony of getting burned by another ntc on a TML cap dump dman is too much lol.
