I get the idea of Wheeler, but it's really a toss up, do you go get an old guy who likely wears down by end of season or playoffs but maybe looks good for the first 40? Or do you get a less skilled, harder to play against young plug instead? I just think we continue to have too many top 9 options and no 3rd line. I think we need to identify the right mix for our top 6 going forward. Guys who can play with each other and for a bunch of years and then move the other top 6 guys for draft capital and better fits for the roster. We need to stop playing EA and start making a team where our forward lines have very clear roles.
We're firmly entrenched in the window and have committed money. The actual thoughtful planning of the top 6 doesn't come until the next roster generation turns over. Right now, Drury is trying his best to make Lego pieces fit with Mattel blocks.

God I f***ing hate Canada. These biased Leafs homers ok TSN have been talking about Reaves signing for the past 45min straight as if this is the big fish of the UFA market. This is a 13th forward, why the f*** are they talking about this signing for so long?

Mike Johnson has it right. And regarding the Canada bias, its the biggest hockey market here, it's annoying but no more annoying that listening to a msg broadcast if you aren't a rangers fan

You spent seasons basically pimping a 69th forward so they thought you’d be into this.

Canadian coverage is always ass though. Especially when the leafs do anything

To be fair, we did the same lol

The Rangers weren't gonna be pushed around no more now that The Sheriff was in town.

If Wheeler puts up 50 points for 1M ish (if it happens) how is it bad? Isn’t that kind of player what you want for the playoffs? Size, hits, dirty areas, etc?

If we had a lot of cap there’s other options but we don’t lol
It's not terrible or necessarily bad. But what's the bigger plan with our forward lines? Are we really going to go back into the playoffs with the kid line being our checking unit? I mean Wheeler is a big body and has been a good player for years, but I don't totally know if this is helping us construct lines that have defined roles. But really, that issue pre-exists. So, I'm complaining about that problem moreso than Wheeler himself. He's not a bad player,. he is older and his durability, footspeed, etc will be a question.

But who knows. What this team needs is a couple swiss army knives that have speed sandpaper and okay hands.

well then tell us where is this player ?
Ping me in like an hour. Let’s see how some of these salaries shake out. They could have tried to get McLeod out of NJ. He does a lot of the things the Rangers are bad at. Connor Brown I liked but he was always going to Edmonton

He’s just building suspense, even I didn’t think he was this committed to the bit.

Is there even American coverage of this? I’ll try to stream that if I can

I hear that. I totally hear that. I think though that something can change next off-season. The lack of cap space is making it hard to make bigger moves that could alter the top 6 construction. (i'm ignoring the NTCs and NMCs)

I dont mind wheeler on a cheap deal as long as they don't feel the need to force him into spots like they did with Kane. Wheeler could ride shotgun with Chytil and take faceoffs for him, it could work
