No retention, no sweeteners, multiple teams made offers… there’s a wide gulf between how internet hockey fans and actual GMs perceive players like Trouba.

Always has been, so this shouldn’t be surprising.

Exactly, these players are always overvalued and the actual GMs end up looking stupid acquiring them at the prices they do.

No retention is really quite incredible. How you get away with that as the Rangers is mystifying. Multiple teams wanted him! All with even worse pro scouting than Ottawa, which apparently does exist.

It's an odd way of spending ~8 million bucks and ~12 in cap, but whatever.

Supply and demand for RHD.

It's the same reason San Jose will get another 2nd or 3rd for Ceci at the deadline, and people will be shocked.

His real money being lower than his cap hit might have factored in for Anaheim since they aren't a cap team.

It's bit a coincidence that teams seen as less than ideal destinations like Columbus and Anaheim were in in this. RHD are difficult to find and those teams are on most no trade lists. They usually have to overpay for free agents. The 4th is negligible. This is like signing Trouba to a 2 year 6.5M deals as a UFA, which I don't think anybody would think too hard about, especially if it's a team like Anaheim or Columbus signing it.

He's scoring primarily at ES. He barely gets any PP time in NYR.

Not saying he puts up the same numbers as Brady, but he can produce on ES and is 23, plenty of room to grow

That's somewhat true. He's getting the 6th most PP time on the Rangers, but if everyone is healthy he normally doesn't play on the top unit.

Some trades work out, others don’t. It’s no different than any other type of player.

One thing has been proven though. If you want to be a cup winner or succeed in the playoffs, you need multiple defensemen who are big and physical.

Meanwhile on HFBoards and Twitter people are still pining over Erik Brannstrom.

If we can get Lafreniere, Schneider, a 1st, and a 1st round tier prospect for Brady and spare parts, they have to at least think about it. From a probability POV, the season is over, and they will deal from a position of weakness shopping Brady in the summer when it would be common knowledge that they have to move him by July 1st.

The problem with Erik Brannstrom is that he's a finesse defenceman with no legitimate offence to speak of.

He looks tolerable but only as a 3rd pairing guy on a good team.

You also need them to be decent at defence.

Brady for one second liner, one fourth liner and a late first round pick is.....good?

Are we day drinking today?
I said satisfactory

When you trade a player like Brady, you almost always lose. Laf and a 1st would be fine and Kakko might help the third line, it could end up working out.

Teams almost never trade their best prospects, we aren't getting a bluechipper back.

The team would be insane to reject that kind of offer.

Kakko a 4th liner? Greig is in our top 6 right now and people talk about Pinto like he’s a 2nd line C.

Kakko is better with more potential than both.

If Brady ends up wanting out, that’d be a very good return.

Kakko sucks dude. On our team he'd get even less points and he doesn't offer much else aside from playing a decent defensive game which is fine for the bottom 6 I guess but not something I would care much about if the other two main parts coming back were Lafreniere and a late 1st. That's a very "quantity for quality" move and it rarely works out.

You don't want him at 8 million dollars. No playoff team wants to pay him that.

That’s a different thing.

Is he a useful player vs. is he worth what he makes.

Josh Norris is a good, useful player. I doubt a playoff team wants to pay him 7.95M. Same with Thomas Chabot.

You can have a good, useful player who makes too much.

Kakko is a good player. Big, defensively responsible and on pace for 54 points despite limited PP time. Only 23 years old.

How some Sens fans assess our players, and then players on other teams, is wild.

Would you say Pinto sucks? Kakko is a winger version of Pinto, but with a bit more offensive upside.

Yes, and Trouba is. Do you want him playing 24 minutes a night? No. But in a Zub type role? He’s fine.

Hence why, even with his contract, multiple teams wanted him.

Trouba has been god awful for a couple of years now. Dirty player who is also not popular with his teammates. I would not want him anywhere near this team, sepecially with an $8M price tag. He's garbage.

I wonder if we could get Drew Helleson out of Anaheim. Not the established guy Staios would prefer, but he projects to be a big, defensively steady RD that could pair well with Sanderson down the line.

Doesn’t really matter. The money alone puts the rangers in a spot of weakness. This is nothing more than a smaller team helping out a bigger team for a favor down the road
