Wonder what Tanev is thinking ? Stay with Dallas for less money and try to win the cup or go home to a team like Ottawa that *could* be up and coming ( as long as Korpisalo doesn’t play) while surely getting a much more lucrative contract.

If Tanev tests free agency I really think Staios is going to go all in on him and we aren’t going to be very happy with the contract down the road.

the game is reverting back to past years. Tunna touched on it in post #9,195.

...

The Cole Caufield experiment is over. It is now back to the Claude Lemieux world.
Not to shit on him as I like the player, but I really hope someone, or a group of someones, have an honest chat with Jimothy this off-season. He doesn't need to be a Claude, but he's gotta play bigger than a Cole.

Norris is an interesting player, since blowing his shoulder 5 games into the 2022-23 season he's been very tentative, and likely because the last surgery simply wasn't successful, but he wasn't a soft player prior to that. Even with his shoulder issues this year he was still engaging but just not with the umph he had in the past, hell, he threw more hits than Pinto... This was actually the year he threw the most hits in his career.

If Norris can get his shoulder stable, I think he's exactly the type of player we want to build this team around. At his best, he's a fairly big kid with some speed, plays a well rounded games and has a great shot. It's just that shoulder we have to worry about.

Zegras is a ~65 pts player with skill but very much a perimeter guy. He's a different world of soft than bum shoulder Norris. I wouldn't trade Norris for him myself, but if you're just really scared of the shoulder I can see the argument
Norris gets pushed around on the ice a lot. He has missed a lot of developmental time and he probably hasn't been able to gain strength with all the injuries. It will be the same issue this summer. If we can get out from under the contract and bring in Zegras I do it for sure.

I wouldn't say neither Pinto or Norris are hard to play against yet

I would buy Norris out if we get the second buyout window and he is cleared (health wise) for a buyout. I'll always be curious if they were going that direction before the injury, because just like Korpisalo they were trying to dump him at the deadline. I wonder if they would have bought him out as a last resort because the buyout ratio is so favourable.

That's obviously an "on paper" comment. The team knows more than I do both in terms of the state of his shoulder and any political ramifications there might be in terms of their relationship with other plays when it comes buying him out. If he was in fact available for trade at the deadline as has been rumoured, I doubt they would be worried about negative ramifications of buying him out.

We're talking about a player who from the age of 22-25 has missed almost half of the 246 games he could have played. Multiple shoulder injuries dating back to College. It's not a negative comment on him as a player or a person, but the way I view it is that if he was a free this summer I would not be happy if the team signed him to a 6 year 8M contract. So if there is a way to get out of a majority of that cap hit (like a U26 buyout or a trade), I would take the safe route.

It also doesn't help that our team has such minimal cap flexibility. If we were a team early in a rebuild, I would hold on to him.

Do you have a link for this? What I saw suggested the opposite, they were not trying to move him, but were getting calls inquiring. I think it was Pagnotta.

You're right, the Senators were not shopping him, they were only "listening".

Whatever that means I guess...

Without knowing what teams were offering, it's hard to gauge anything from that, if teams were calling and making low ball offers bordering on we'll take him off your hands, and we were listening, then we might as well have been shopping him, while if teams were making offers that were in line with a "healthy" Norris that was having the expected down year after a major surgery, and we were listening but never acted on it, then that's a very different conversation.

Priorities:
1. #1 Goalie - Spencer Knight
2. RD - Brayden Schneider
3. RW - Jack Roslovic
4. Tough guy - Lawson Crouse LW
- Knight & Schneider are both young enough to grow with the Sens young roster
- Roslovic & Crouse are two gritty vets & Crouse a legitimate heavyweight
- Kubalik LW ($2.5 mil out)

Stole Some Trade Ideas:
To Florida: Forsberg G & Brannstrom LD ($4.735 mil out)
To Ottawa: Spencer Knight G ($4.5 mil in) - difference $.235K

To NYR: Chychrun LD ($4.6 mil out)
To Ott: Schneider RD & Roslovic RW ($4.6 mil in) (signed)

To Utah: Joseph LW/RW & Bost 1st rd pick 25th OA ($3 mil out)
To Ottawa: Lawson Crouse LW ($4.3 mil in) - difference $1.3 mil

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Stutzle - Pinto - Roslovic
Crouse - Greig - Giroux
Ostapchuk - Kastelic - MacEwan/Kelly - $53 mil

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Schneider
Kleven - JBD/Hamonic - $25 mil

Knight - Korpisalo/Sogaard - $8.5 mil = $86.5

I like your targets other than Roslavic, but all of those proposals are extremely tilted in the Sens favour.

Norris was always a soft player even before his injury. Much like the rest of this core bar Tkachuk who is one of the only physical guys.

If there's an opportunity to trade him for Zegras you do it 10 times over. Zegras is:

- Younger
- Better offensively
- Doesnt make $8M
- Not one shoulder injury away from retirement

“younger” which is 100% irrelevant (Norris is 25) or worse a detriment to us trying to “grow up” as a team.

Norris is a far better goal scorer, and picks up pts at a higher rate. You seem to be confusing flashy with…actual offence.

he makes $6 million and isn’t going to ask for a reduction on his next contract

The shoulder thing is true, but maybe he’s fixed by Vladdys magic doctor

Norris is also 6’2, ultra competitive, plays a full ice game - meanwhile Zegras while not putting up as much offence plays exactly the opposite way we want our team to play. He’s also a terrible #2C complement Stutzle.

Like Norris or not, and if we could improve there I’m all in - it’s that Zegras is simply not that guy.

On an island
If Norris is LTIR'd for the season. I'd pay to bring in Guentzel 7x8/9M
Sign Pinto to a bridge
Remaining balance goes to bringing a guy like Demelo
Trading for Spencer Knight might be a clever move as well.

Ship out Chychrun + picks to restructure the cap.

To Ottawa
Crouse

To Arizona
Pinto

Pinto is untouchable.

He might have played his way off the market but all this Joseph talk has me picturing a Joseph/Ceci swap. Especially if/when Edmonton lands a bonafide top 4RD in FA while we swing and miss.

I know no one wants Ceci, I basically agree with that sentiment, but I have real doubts we can land something better (let alone without shooting ourselves in the foot down the road)

Typical homer post. Take off the Sens coloured glasses pal and try to be objective - I know it's hard with how delusional you are.

Career PPG:

Norris 0.67
Zegras 0.73

Doesn't take a genius to figure out that Zegras is more impressive offensively by putting up those numbers with a team that is typically bottom of GFs aside from '22.

Norris is NOT 6'2 at his draft combine he was measured at 6' and looks smaller than that on the ice.l and certainly doesn't play like it.
