RD. Two way middle sixer. Revamped fourth line.

We need TWO things. A big strong solid two way RD and a top goalie.
That’s it.

Idk are you one of the people freaking out cause we have to trade everyone now?
The Sabres don't have a good RHD on the roster. Dahlin plays the position but he's LH. Sabres don't really have a top goalie though UPL has been playing well lately. Here's an offer the Sabres could give:

Thompson, Peterka, 2024 1st, Jokiharju

Willing to swap out Power with Thompson. Power can play the right side but he's LH. Also willing to swap out Peterka, 2024 1st, or Jokiharju with Kulich, Rosen, and Devon Levi.

Thoughts?

Buffalo fans are pretty familiar with trading the best player off their team.

Eichel's trade demand was for 4 1st round picks or equivalents. That got Buffalo a 1st round pick, Krebs (a recent 1st), Tuch (1st equivalent), and a 2nd round pick.

So, we went with:

Thompson (1st equivalent)
Peterka (1st equivalent)
Jokiharju (about a 2nd equivalent)
2024 1st

But what does that mean? It's the players how? Which ones?

Shouldn't better coaching have resulted in better goaltending? The numbers are basically flat pre- and post-DJ.
Well that’s the shocking thing. When we were at our hottest under Martin. We were playing really reaaaaalllyy good defence. And the goaltending was still sub .900. It really defies logic how bad these goalies have been

If I knew which ones I'd be sending my CV to Staios right now.

It's honestly difficult to say without being around the players and having inside knowledge about the state of affairs.

As for what that means? Process of elimination. Martin's coaching doesn't seem to be the problem - when the players execute we have success against good teams. They just don't execute it consistently.

Whether it's individual players, the goalies, or the overall makeup of the team, something is clearly missing. I can't pin that on the coach. Can't pin it on the GM that inherited the team. So what else is left? The players.

2018-2022.. average finish 70 points.. average finish level 26th
issues: goalies, defense, offense, toughness, discipline

2022-2023..86 points, 21 overall finish
issues; goalies, defense,...., toughness, discipline

2023-2024...72 to 82 points, 24-26 finish level
issues; goalies, defense, offense, toughness, discipline

So what has changed in 7 years? nearly nothing.

So,,
1) another year of looking for a goalie
2) another year looking for a quality 2 way Dman, who is right handed
3) improved offense, 1-2 guys on lines 1 and 2.
4) improved offense, 1-2 guys on lines 2 and 3.
5) a Selke caliber forward(s). One legit Selke, one mini-Selke

other than that, not much.

Korpo and/or Fores.. out.. or both.
one off, Chyc or Chabot out
add a RD who is Zub, but a tad more offense and a and more robustness
find a Tarasenko replacement who is a 40 goal man
replace Norris (If you can move him???)
replace Kub with a 20-25 goal scorer
get a Selke caliber..or get a coach to convert Pinto or Greig into one
get a Selke light.. or get a coach to convert Pinto or Greig into one

funny this list could have been (name changes to reflect the personnel) copy and past from 2018.

"We're building this team around Brady Tkachuk and the type of person and the type of player and the type of leader that he is. He means everything to the organization and he brings it every night along with our core group of players."
Steve Staios.

Ok now all of the keyboard warriors can stop with their crazy posts from fringe twitter folks about Brady possibly being traded. It is unfounded but however did get Ryan Whitney and Lavoie a bit more time in the media spotlight. Lol
These reporters will say anything especially around trade deadline just to get people believing their lies and to get some notoriety. And to hope that somebody buys what they are selling. This happens every year at this time of year.

Staios was on a podcast and asked about the Tkachuk trade rumors.

He laughed and said they are basically building around them. Hopefully that shuts people up unless of course Brady himself asks for a trade.

That is exactly what I would say if I didn't want people to catch on to me being about to trade Tkachuk to St.Louis for Jordan Kyrou and Nic Petan.

You can't tie up 20+ million on 3 left d men. It's not complicated.
Says who?
