The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Keep all 4 of our main dmen and fill out the two RD spots

Sanderson-Zub
Chabot-X
Chychrun-X

Getting Demelo and trading for someone competent like a Tvr solves the problem too while making sure we have someone elite on the ice always. That being said I would consider trading Chychrun if he wants a stupid number for his extension

Sanderson-Zub
Chabot-Demelo
Chychrun-TVR

That would be a luxury.

There are diminishing returns to having Chabot and Chychrun on the left side. Additionally, as Sanderson grows, he might eat up more minutes. Sanderson can play in all situations, and both Chychrun and Chabot play similar roles (with Chabot already being leaned on more). It doesn't make sense to pay 8M each to two LHD who play similar roles to each other.

We should trade Chychrun to try recoup as much of the assets we gave up as possible. We are going to need a goalie, a top 4 RHD, and a scoring winger to replace Tarasenko. With how few assets we have, keeping Chychrun is going to make it difficult to fill those roles. We already have seen that Chychrun and Chabot is not ideal on their offside.

To Cal: Chychrun LD (25 yrs old, 2 yrs @ $4.6)
To Ott: Andersson RD (27 yrs old, 3 yrs at $4.55)

To NYR: Tarasenko RW ($3 mil out) (Ott retains $2 mil)
To Ott: NYR 1st rd pick

To Jackets: Kubalik LW & Brannstrom LD ($4.5 out)
To Ottawa: Roslovic RW ($4 in)

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Joseph - Stutzle - Giroux
Greig - Pinto - Roslovic
Kelly - Kastelic - MacEwan

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Andersson
Kleven - JBD/Hamonic

that’s fine. I define tough not as Ryan Reeves - I define it as the guy that battles for every puck, skates the hardest minutes for the team, does everything the coach asks for and never cheats the fans.

Chabot is a stud - all this “I know better” attitude Ottawa fans have developed since Sanderson showed up is stupid and shows immaturity. We are allayed to have 2 good LD - we don’t need to choose one or degrade the other because one is better. We need them both

You need a lot of excellent - TOUGH players to win the Cup and I’d take Chabot any day. And if you knew what was good for this team you would too
My guy chill. We're all here for banter about our team and respectfully share our opinions.

For what it's worth, I don't consider Reaves as tough by any means, and also want to keep Chabot over Chychrun.

How's this for a deal between now and the deadline?

To Columbus:
Kubalik
Brannstrom

To Ottawa:
Peeke
Texier
I'd do that deal. I doubt we get much for Kubalik and Brannstrom at best case grabs us a 2nd. Wouldn't mind taking a chance at Peeke under someone like JM and seeing how he's been healthy scratched a few times on a team as bad as ours, we might be able to get a draft pick as well. Wouldn't mind getting Mathieu Oliver as well. That dude has a motor that never stops.

Since the new year, it hasn't really been close as to who has been better, and who Martin thinks is better and puts out there.

I personally don't understand wanting to keep Chychrun over Chabot, especially when he's going to cost the same on the cap. One has looked quite good for a while, the other hasn't.

Even when he's on the left side like last game, he's still getting ~5 minutes less than Chabot
Chabot has looked better because he got to play with Zub. Play him with anyone else then he doesn't look good.
If Chychrun wants $8 million it's a toss up between the two but this year and next JC makes $3.3 million less than TC which is a huge deal.

Pagnotta on the Coming in Hot Podcast.

Just paraphrasing:

"Depending on who you talk to, they are various reasons as to why they think Chychrun is on the market. One of the seasons is that the sens are stacked on the left side. The other reason is that there is some chatter that he might not get along with everybody on that room, and questioning his desire to stay long term."

Chabot’s most common partner at even strength over that period is Chychrun.

Kubalik and Brannstrom have next to no value. There's a reason people want to trade them on last place team. They're both overpaid and don't bring anything to a playoff team. So yeah I think they both just walk at the end of the year. Maybe if Ottawa retains they can get a late round pick or journeyman prospect.

Tarasenko and one of Chychrun/Chabot are this teams current tradeable assets. That's who the trade proposals should be around if people want to discuss realistic deals.

Switch them for 50 games( not 17) and see who looks better
Personally I dont think they are asking the worst player of the 2 to play his off side

Occam's razor, I'd say they're playing the guy who has played multiple seasons in the NHL on the right side on the right side. Why would they put the player you think is better in a position where he looks very bad, like...that makes little to no sense

One is playing more every single game, and it’s not because they think he’s worse and he plays the left side. They both played left last game, Chabot saw 5 more minutes. One is getting significantly more time in overtime, where side makes no difference.

And over 50 is essentially the exact same, aside from injuries. Chychrun has been getting less icetime over the past while, and he got to play 20 games with no Chabot icetime to make that number look even higher than it would otherwise

My point is play them with Zub for 41 games each next year and I think Chychrun gives a better return than Chabot

Well that’s certainly a different scenario than was being discussed.

I think it’s highly unlikely, but absolutely a possibility.

Think he’s only going to be here for another 2 weeks or so though.

For what it's worth, I don't consider Reaves as tough by any means, and also want to keep Chabot over Chychrun.
Reaves is tough; one of the best fighters in the league.

However, he is not good at playing hockey and has lost a step or two in recent years.

Reaves is not "hard to play against" because he is too slow, not quick, and not good at either defensive or offensive play.

Not worth it for CLB to give up Texier for this. They aren't in cap trouble and Texier has only played half a year since returning from a long absence... he still has the ability to be a good middle 6er for them.

I like the idea of trading Branny/Kubalik for RFAs and depth players. Some possible examples include Texier, Kakko, Fabbro, Kunin, Hayton, Lundestrom, Lizotte, Rasmussen, Grundstrom, Zadina, Jones.

That's fair, I saw Texier was getting minutes more often on the 4th line this year whereas he was playing higher in the lineup prior to his leave of absence. I thought he may have fallen out of favor with many of the Jackets' young forwards breaking through for spots with the big club.

Do you think Emil Bemstrom would be closer value wise? He's also in a similar contract situation as Brannstrom but doesn't quite have the upside of Texier. Was also on waivers back in November so should be an expendable piece from CBJ's side.

Yea that's the idea, Peeke is able to make the simple plays and has some of the same strengths as Zub (without being as good as Zub). If he can mesh with Chabot or Chychrun and allow them to focus on what they do well while playing on their natural side, it gives us a nice cost-effective option on the right side for the next two seasons.

Olivier is a nice option too, he would look good in our bottom 6 and I would still do it with him included instead of Texier. I was focusing more on forwards with the same contract status as Brannstrom which led me to look at Texier or Bemstrom, but the framework of the deal still works for us if Olivier or Danforth is the depth forward coming back.

That exchange right there is why you keep chabby and chych. That edge. Playoff time it’ll be there alright. Might even nullify a player on the other team and be that clutch goal guy.

Just give him 7.5x8 and you don’t see your riches. It’s not that you are burdened with three left defenceman. You’re blessed with them. You can cover for injuries. It has many benefits.

Bruce is such a clown.

Dumba shouldn’t be an option here . We don’t need a small oft injured dman who is also not great in his own end.

Makes no sense with the current makeup of our D group. Just play Brannstrom on the right side if you want that type of player (Branny is better defensively imo)

He might be a tough person, but not sure if he's a tough hockey player since he can't even play the game. If we play Toronto, I hope Reaves plays 15+ minutes given how slow he is.

Dumba isn’t bad in his own end. He just isn’t physical or offensive anymore. He’s just like a dimelo. But can log big minutes and who knows maybe sometimes he can be meaner. I’d take him in a heartbeat. Don’t believe the narrative. He is good. Give him a watch.
