it's actually the opposite.

they think that management will stupidly move on from kaliyev so they can get a band aid depth player in return.

Fair. There are definitely some arguing for him in that thread. Not what I'd been reading previously, but it's been a bit now and they're kind of in the crapper atm. What I'm getting a bit there is that now that they're souring on their coach, they want to try Kaliyev with a new coach first. Fair point on their part, but if they do that and he doesn't show out, they get nothing in the end.

I don't know that I'm as down on him as BondraTime, but not a player I'd target, personally speaking.

No chance in hell we're moving Giroux. I could have seen it happen if this was the last year of his contract, and he re-signs with us in the summer, but that's not the case.
If they move Giroux it's going to be a gun to their head type scenario.

He would have to express some sort of desire to be moved. If it did happen, the Senators are not going to force a respected veteran to stay. There is no indication that this will happen. It is speculation based on a Kevin Weekes Tweet linking the Flyers to Giroux.

He can’t skate. At all. He is legitimately a hindrance to the skilled guys he plays because he can’t keep up. He’s Alex Chiasson with a cannon.

That’s why LA is looking to trade him for a depth player, but will likely need to add.

Alex Chiasson with a great shot or basically a slightly better Sokolov.

If we trade a bunch of people near the deadline and he goes on waivers I'd take him as filler and to see if he can build some value with increased ice time. Other than that I see no reason to try to acquire this player. Too slow for the modern NHL.

Chiasson is a 600+ game guy with 200+ points. He was a useful player for a time in the NHL. Chiasson with Kaliyev’s shot is even better than the 600 game, 200 point guy he was.

Sokolov may not be a 20 game, 5 point guy.

Mann threatened to quit when PD brought up trading down.

Was a fantastic pick by Dorion and Mann, there were a lot very upset at taking him, and who we passed on, mainly Kaliyev taken right after.
Aside from Kaliyev, a lot of people on here wanted Bobby Brink or Raphael Lavoie and Pinto has been the best of all four players. Lavoie was on waivers at the end of preseason so I am not sure if he hasn't developed as expected or whether the Oilers had too much depth and he got pushed out of a spot.

League executives say the asking price for Tanev is at least a first-round pick, plus a prospect. We’re led to believe Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving, who signed Tanev while with the Flames, had made him the club’s No. 1 target and will pay a higher price in a trade.

From Bruce’s article.

He also says that Lassi Thompson, Sokolov, Reinhardt could be traded.

Kastelic might be waved if no one wants to trade for him too.

I was high on him because of the fact that his ascent in hockey was so fast. He didn't start playing seriously until 14 or 15 and to improve that quickly really says something about a players athleticism and their ceiling.

Same goes for Batherson albeit a bit different.

Edit: Re ^ Pinto

The exact quote from Garrioch's article is this:
GARRIOCH: The Senators aren't alone in their pursuit of Calgary defenceman Chris Tanev
An NHL executive said Tuesday he could envision a scenario with the Senators where the likes of Belleville blueliner Lassi Thomson, along with forwards Egor Sokolov and Cole Reinhardt, are dealt before the deadline.

Thomson, 23, a first-round pick in the 2019 NHL draft, has been with the club for four years and has only played 18 NHL games. It may be time for a change of scenery for both sides.

“There comes a point where you just decide you need to move on from a player, and maybe you take a look at a guy that you’ve liked in another organization,” the executive said.

That really isn't saying much. Thomson and Sokolov are already waiver eligible and Reinhardt will be losing his waiver exempt status by next season. Teams always start considering trading prospects once they are in that age range and become waiver eligible.

Thomson is the most likely to get traded if there is a market for him as he doesn't have much of a future here. Reinhardt has shown some progress but has been injured a lot this season. Sokolov wears the "A" in Belleville and is involved in the Belleville community for charitable events, he is well liked by the organization. Sokolov has also started to round out his game in Belleville.

I am not sure about Thomson but I would think that Reinhardt and Sokolov would get a call up before they consider trading them. Give the new management and coaching staff to see how far they have progressed this season. The team isn't making the playoffs so there is no risk in giving them a real chance to show what they can do.

Why exactly are we, a bottom team in the east, focused on acquiring a soon to be 35yo rental?

Yes, Tanev is very good, but this feels no different than PD picking Boucher at #10 because "we have enough skill", then proceeding to prematurely trade the following 2 first round picks for players while were still nowhere near playoffs contention.

We should be focused on selling the valuable, but expendable assets at the deadline. Then looking to shore up the roster in the offseason via trades and signings.

In theory you are right but it’s beyond obvious we need a RD. When you have the opportunity to get a player you need it’s always worth checking in.

I imagine we would like Taney.

I think the chances of the Sens being able to pull off a Taney trade this season is close to nil.

Hinges both on the Sens being off his NT list, and him being open to an extension prior to the trade, because there is no chance a 34 year old will be accepting a trade as an expiring UFA to a basement team when a dozen playoff teams are looking to add him.

I'm more concerned about a tanev extension then the cost tbh. Considering we are a bottom team in the east we either have to give him term or a stupid amount of dollars

I think we will regret trading Chychrun unless he indicates he won’t sign a new contract with us. He’s been inconsistent like the rest of the team, but when he is playing well he is really good (like the team can be). But I get it, we need to turn a LHD into a shutdown RHD.

Chabot could be that LHD. He isn’t playing up to the level you would expect from an 8 Million dollar Cap Hit, and he does have a MNTC that kicks in on July 1st, making it harder to move him… so I would prefer moving him over Chychrun.

I could see it. He has a pretty strange personality. Dude is seriously red-pilled if you follow him on social media. Like he reposts some pretty stupid right-wing shit.

Still waiting for an example…. Asked before, but you did not support your accusation.

Do we really want to go down the road of keeping or trading away players based on social media posts? What about Russian players, who openly support their president, plus the fact that Russians aren’t allowed in the Olympics or World Championships ?

Did Garrioch forget so quickly that Thomson already had a change of scenery this season?

What a buffoon!

Wow, Thompson was claimed off waivers on October 1st, and reclaimed a week later… don’t think he ever pulled a Ducks Jersey over his head, as they assigned him to their AHL affiliate…..

Hardly a change of scenery….

would only be acquired if he agreed to an extension as part of the deal…. So would not be a rental.
