Can i ask why?

He's roughly a ppg in the AHL and 0.5 ppg in the NHL this year averaging less than 11 mins of ice time.

Full disclosure, I'm no expert on his game so I don't fully undertand the knocks on his game (other than the fact that he's a super small dude and has some injury history).

I'm just targeting guys that might be jammed down roster with more to offer.
He’s an AHL / zNHL tweener IMO. He is a small one dimensional winger, not what we need.

This may be a wild theory, but what if the new regime are tossing out some false rumours to try and find out who the leakers are in the organization.

This roster still has me asking what if, what if the team sold earlier and they started the season with a new HC, what if Pinto hadn't been suspended and they found a way to fit him in (for the purposes of the, sy we traded Kubalik).

With next season in mind, I see us as having about 11 mil to replace Tank, Brannstrom and extend Pinto.

My hope is to get a RHD (Hakanpaa. For example) and a two way winger for the third line, (Zucker, or Noesen perhaps?)

I'd be happy to have Tank back but I think he's going to price himself out.

Unless we have a strong finish though, UFA route is probably going to be a tough sell. More likely that we make some trades....

Shit is still going to come down to the Jekyll & Hyde goaltending.

Perhaps yes, but we do have a new owner, and as they say, money talks and nobody walks. I'm not going to be surprised, nor am I trying to predict anything, but we've never had an ownership group with deep pockets. Plus, there's also the ability to slightly overpay in money or term (or both). Of course, all of that may still not be enough (although it has worked sometimes in the past).

I see only one need as key or pivotal, and that is for a good, top 4 RD. Acquiring a winger has seemed to be less problematic.

I guess all you can do is hope.

Wonder if we could find the basis of a deal with the Rangers around something like this:

Chychrun

- Schneider RD (RFA) going to get between 2.5-4 based on contract length.
- Goodrow 3 years left at $3.6, they want to get his money off the books badly. He’s also exactly the kind of veteran management is looking to add.
I don’t expect offence, I expect grit, effort, and character on our 4th line.

The Rangers have Fox and their captain Trouba ahead of him on the right side. While they need a puck moving offensive guy on the left.
Chychrun is on a great contract this year and next, then could sign longterm with the Rangers.

Thoughts?
I'd be fine with that deal. Looked over in the NYR posts, they really want Goodrow gone because he just isn't working there.

Who's getting traded by the deadline?

I think Tarasenko should go. Also, if the Sens have no intention of re-signing Chychrun he should be traded.

  • Chychrun (50/50, predicated on an offer being strong. There is no need to move him for a rental type return that they could get next year, or beat in the summer with a possible extension baked into a trade.)
  • Tarasenko (Low of a 2nd round pick, high of a late 1st. Sens will have to take back money and/or retain.)
  • Brannstrom (NHL defenseman are always in demand. Once teams gain a bit more cap flexibility, he should return a 4th to 6th type draft pick.)
  • Kubalik (Likely half retained for a late pick.)
  • Joseph (Dorion acquisition who is having a great season after a bad one. I could see management not wanting to risk him regressing back to what he was. They also need cap flexibility and assets to re-tool the team how they see fit and not many players will return either.)
  • Forsberg (If a bad money for bad money type trade that makes sense for both sides is available. Possibly a team already on LTI takes him and dumps a bad non-LTIR contract to us that we like better.)

Nice post. I agree with every one of those moves.

Yeah Joseph is incredibly far down the list of guys to trade, and low cap, it’s not worth really discussing

They are predictions, not a wish list.

I would keep Joseph, but I think they will trade him with the idea being they are selling high. I think they are going to look to pieces that are actually moveable to gain cap flexibility and assets to re-tool around the core in the summer.

I think there is zero chance they trade Joseph.
This team needs to get chippier & faster.
Trading Joseph accomplishes exactly the opposite.

You are suggesting trading Joseph for picks then?

Who do we replace him with? He is proving to be a very good to great player for us.

I’d be more than very surprised, would be beyond shocked

Only requirement imo for trade deadline:
- send out Kubalik
- use space to upgrade on JBD

Other items are gravy:
- trade tarasenko if not able to be resigned ST at <$5M
- trade Chycrun if not able to be resigned LT at <$6M
- trade Brannstrom if not able to be resigned ST at <$2.5M
- see if suitors for Hamonic, if not buy-out in summer

Predictions, not suggestions.

I think they want to put their own mark on the team. Which means moving out players with value who they haven't designated as part of the core, because they need both increased cap flexibility and picks/prospects in order to be able to acquire their ideal complimentary pieces for the core.

I could see this if it was a hockey trade, like a Foligno for Methot kind of deal where you get a defenseman which is more of a need.

But I don’t see them trading him for picks or for increased cap flexibility. I think their cap flexibility is okay for what needs to be done, and I think they’ll probably get some picks/prospects for Chychrun and Tarasenko… not sure they really need to move Joseph for any of that.
