Wonder if we could find the basis of a deal with the Rangers around something like this:

Chychrun

- Schneider RD (RFA) going to get between 2.5-4 based on contract length.
- Goodrow 3 years left at $3.6, they want to get his money off the books badly. He’s also exactly the kind of veteran management is looking to add.
I don’t expect offence, I expect grit, effort, and character on our 4th line.

The Rangers have Fox and their captain Trouba ahead of him on the right side. While they need a puck moving offensive guy on the left.
Chychrun is on a great contract this year and next, then could sign longterm with the Rangers.

Thoughts?

Goodrow would have to waive his NTC, which I doubt he'd do, but if he would I'd be fine with giving up some value to get a defensive RD like Schneider in a Chychrun deal.

Hell could even expand the deal and add a retained Tarasenko for Kakko, provided they would be willing to welcome him back to the team.

Apparently Miller and Lindgren have not been great this year, so even though their LD appears full with Gustafsson occupying the 3rd pairing LD spot behind them, an upgrade at the position could be something they'd be interested in.

Problem for them is Schneider is basically their only RD in the organization beyond Fox and Trouba, and we don't have one to give up, so they'd have to find a replacement elsewhere.

Value is an OK start, but would probably want at least a first and another good prospect (Cuylle?) if we're taking Goodrow back in the deal.

The cap may be going up but teams are going to use it up quick. Getting rid of a 3x3.6 deal will cost a 1st, like it would have with Joseph.

I haven't watched the Rangers much this year, but if Schneider is still tracking to be a top 4 shutdown defenseman, that is a player that is worth gold into today's NHL and almost never gets moved.

We're not getting a 1st, Cuylle and Schneider for Chychrun, even if we're taking on Goodrow in the deal.

“I think it’s ridiculous, if I’m being honest,” Chychrun said. “I went through it in Arizona and that was a different situation. But to see it now is a bit ridiculous. And I don’t think it’s based off anything.”
“It’s people shooting blind darts at a board and hoping they hit,” Chychrun said. “People have a right to say what they want, but to act like they have their sources is a joke. And people like to get their clicks on social media. If they have to use my name to do it, go ahead. But I’m not going to let it affect me.”
“I feel at home here. I bought a house and it’s five minutes from my sister and 10 minutes from my grandpa,” said Chychrun. “It’s been a cool opportunity. It’s special coming home and this is a second home to me. I’ve just been cherishing my time here because not everybody gets that opportunity to play in front of family and loved ones.”
While he’s aware that a trade could occur down the road, he simply wants it known that he’s not trying to orchestrate his way out of this current situation.
At one point on Tuesday, Chychrun said, “I’m loving every moment here.”

So the streets are wrong this time?

I actually find martian to be a bit immature in the locked on sens podcast. I was surprised this guy would have sources. But he nailed the dadonov thing.

I think people get carried away with the choices hockey players make for their careers and see things in too narrow of a box. Even with the Debrincat situation, it makes no sense to me that people hate the guy for wanting to play for his hometown team when he was brought in here 2 years away from free agency with no implied willingness to re-sign. Ottawa fans have no reason to be mad at Debrincat, be mad at management for acquiring a player without talking to them.

Chychrun enjoying being in Ottawa, but wanting market value or not feeling like a fit in the org' can both be true. I can see why he would want to get ahead of any narrative, especially if he is going to be traded. Sports fans can be unreasonable and childish with how they view the life choices of the players.

Hopefully, it's all BS and he wants to re-sign a contract here that fits in our 8x8 team structure. I guess we'll see within the next few months.

What did the streets say?

If anything, this makes me think a trade is closer.

If he is staying, there would be no reason to control the narrative because come July 1st we'd all have sufficient proof that he wants to stay here.

He is setting the narrative before he is traded. Which doesn't mean he is being dishonest, but that is why this is coming out now. It's similar to how every player who ever was traded at the trade deadline has a quote out about how they hope the team and their agent come through on a new deal because (insert fanbase here) are the best fanbase.

To be fair to Martian, he didn’t say Chychrun hated Ottawa. The gist of what he tweeted was that he didn’t have interest in being here long-term. Maybe the whole “hometown novelty” bit was unnecessary, but nothing Chychrun says in the article refutes that. He is saying he’s enjoying his time, but I don’t think that necessarily means he wants to be here beyond his contract, either.

They aren’t adding anything, and I don’t care if they do.
Goodrow is useful to us.
Schneider is exactly what we want on the RS.

Hopes are always held high here regardless of the situations

One of our LD needs to be moved, for sure.
Disagree. But let’s see 👁️

PS BondraTime get ready for a battle on this. We’ve had it out a time or two. I just don’t agree.

The streets is about the dumbest calling card I can think of, so not at all surprised he comes off as a bit immature

This quote @Sens of Anarchy posted is a direct shot from Chychrun at "the streets" since he's the only guy on social media that claims to have inside knowledge or "know a guy".

He clearly does have inside knowledge considering he’s been right several times.

Chychrun can call it a joke all he wants, he never refuted what Martian actually said, which was that he did not want to sign an extension.

Martian’s nailed everything the past year or so, very clearly well informed.
Maybe they found his leak and gave out some false info, or info they wanted to be out there. There's a real chance some of you will be traded if you don't start buying in soon, and they did.

I'm still open to trading him but would rather keep him and trade Branny and JBD/Hamonic and get 2 better RHD.

If Ian never asked him about an extension.. Is he supposed to bring up an extension? Is he under an obligation to refute a specific twitter rumor? He is on trade boards he may not even be talking about Martian. We don't know. lol
I think he makes it clear that he likes it here. An extension is something that will need to be discussed when the time is right between he and Staios .. why would he discuss it publicly now?

Nothing in that article suggests he's extending here.

He just wants to kill any rumours about him not being a fit in the room, not getting along with the other players and that he hates it here.
Worst case, he's doing some pr to make sure other teams know he isn't a personality/fit issue.

Best case, he really wants to be here and signs a team friendly shorter deal and we just slot 3 PM LDs and go hunting for two other RD this offseason... And he works to close some of the gaps in his decision making and play.

Idk if it works from a playing perspective... But I can't help but wonder a little at 3 even TOI D pairings.
