Wonder if we could find the basis of a deal with the Rangers around something like this:
Chychrun
- Schneider RD (RFA) going to get between 2.5-4 based on contract length.
- Goodrow 3 years left at $3.6, they want to get his money off the books badly. He’s also exactly the kind of veteran management is looking to add.
I don’t expect offence, I expect grit, effort, and character on our 4th line.
The Rangers have Fox and their captain Trouba ahead of him on the right side. While they need a puck moving offensive guy on the left.
Chychrun is on a great contract this year and next, then could sign longterm with the Rangers.
Thoughts?
Goodrow would have to waive his NTC, which I doubt he'd do, but if he would I'd be fine with giving up some value to get a defensive RD like Schneider in a Chychrun deal.
Hell could even expand the deal and add a retained Tarasenko for Kakko, provided they would be willing to welcome him back to the team.
Apparently Miller and Lindgren have not been great this year, so even though their LD appears full with Gustafsson occupying the 3rd pairing LD spot behind them, an upgrade at the position could be something they'd be interested in.
Problem for them is Schneider is basically their only RD in the organization beyond Fox and Trouba, and we don't have one to give up, so they'd have to find a replacement elsewhere.
Value is an OK start, but would probably want at least a first and another good prospect (Cuylle?) if we're taking Goodrow back in the deal.
The cap may be going up but teams are going to use it up quick. Getting rid of a 3x3.6 deal will cost a 1st, like it would have with Joseph.
I haven't watched the Rangers much this year, but if Schneider is still tracking to be a top 4 shutdown defenseman, that is a player that is worth gold into today's NHL and almost never gets moved.
We're not getting a 1st, Cuylle and Schneider for Chychrun, even if we're taking on Goodrow in the deal.
