There's not a single upcoming UFA RD that is worth paying 6-7M for.

We don't need two middle 6ers, we just need one - a replacement for Tarasenko. Pinto fills one of those middle 6 spots and will cost about 2M.

That leaves 15M in cap space to fit in a 2nd pairing RD, a 2nd/3rd line forward and maybe an upgrade or two at the depth positions.

That's more than enough space to fit in those pieces and retain on Chychrun to max out his value.
This roster assumes Chychrun has been traded with no retaining. 2LW position has been allotted $5 m. Pinto has been signed to a conservative $1.75 m salary.

No idea if this will help, but here it is fwiw.

I wouldn't be opposed to giving Ceci another go around if our front office thinks he has what it takes after extensive scouting.

If they see him play a bunch and like what they see? We desperately need a RD. I want better but if it has to be Ceci? Ok, whatever.

If he still sucks, which is likely, no thanks.

Well the team did start to go to shit when we traded for Chychrun right after “we want playoffs” chants. Arizona seems to be doing better without him anyways. So who the f*** knows if it’s all a coincidence.

Garrioch says Oilers are the best fit for Chychrun.

Ceci would be a good partner for Sanderson. Garrioch doesn't mention him, but I'd be excited to get him back to play a shutdown role. Frees up Zub to play with Chabot.

I know it's a small thing, but this is not what Garrioch said. He said, "Last year, the Oilers were in heavy pursuit of Chychrun, which is why they might be the best fit if a trade is made."

Those are two different statements.

lol bring Ceci back? Are you f***ing kidding me? There is a reason why Oilers fans want to get rid of him.
It may be the most insane trade idea I've seen yet.

If someone is advocating for us to get Ceci back, I assume they are either young and weren't around for his time here, or are so desperate for anything to happen that they should probably step away from their keyboards for a while

Unless they have a hometown connection, nobody wants to come to Ottawa. That's been a fact for years. The only way to get players here is to overpay then.
The problem in this situation is Chych is from the area and wants to leave after less than a year. It's a messed up situation when the guy who was excited to come to a city that he's spent time in and has no desire to stay. It's indicative of a piss poor organization.

Get whatever picks you can for Chychrun, Tarasenko, Brännström annd Kubalik and let Staios use them + Boston pick to shuffle around the roster and build a Staios team.

Grab a top end player with our top 5ish pick, make a move or two from the core at the draft, be aggressive at the draft for trades like the Isles were getting a young core piece in Romonov. If you can’t find a core piece under control, keep the Boston pick and early 2nd and grab some solid prospects.

Give me Hronek or Seider for 6-7MM$
Thank you

Staios was the GM of the Bulldogs when Arthur Kaliyev was lighting it up in the CHL while playing there. There has been some speculation that Kaliyev might get traded so maybe the Sens will target him.

Yup

+ center line should be Stu, Pinto, Greig so Norris...✈️ imo

True.

And they may have been pursuing Chychrun but then they traded for Ekholm, so who knows if they are still seriously interested.

Joseph up with stu and batherson.

Tarasenko down with Kelly and Chartier. So third line I guess?
Yeah, he's been on the third a bunch of times this year, it's just that before Norris got hurt, Greig was the center so it didn't look off.

I though you were suggesting he was bumped down to play with MacEwen and Kastelic...

I actually think we might get a haul for Chych. This is a year to be a seller due to a lot of teams are in a mix and there seems to be a lot of buyers this year. In addition to that, there are barely any top 4 dmen on the market and especially at the cap hit that Chych has, you can get a lot for him before the deadline.

Logan Stanley is likely available from the Jets. He probably would be inexpensive and add an element to our d that we are lacking.

Sammy Blais and Yakov Trenin are some interesting forwards that will be UFAs this offseason.

I think they will either get a player/prospect that isn't normally made available at the TDL, or they will get a return that is structured in a similar way to the Meier trade. Basically, a 1st round pick, a 1st round tier asset, and then maybe a 2nd and a few other things.

If he only had 1 year left, the return would be a late 1st and 1-2 B or C type prospects. He isn't a rental, and whoever acquires him could flip him at the draft or 2025 TDL to recoup a 1st++, which is the same mentality the Devils had with Meier.

If anything, Chychrun is an even more dynamic asset than Meier was because he is already signed next year at a great cap hit and they don't have to worry about arbitration or any of the complications that come with his RFA status, yet they can still extend him.

I'm not saying he and Meier have the same value, only it's a similar situation in that Chychrun is a non-rental.

Ah yes, sens want to get rid of Chychrun because they already have two other good LD, only one good right D, and no space for Chych on PP1… so the most logical trade parter is the oilers who also have two other good left D, only one good right D and no space for Chych on PP1.

Why would the oilers watch us make that mistake and then do the same?

Plus, Dorion isn't the one doing the trading, lol

Kaliyev is the exact opposite kind of player we are lacking. Offensively-gifted, enigmatic, not great compete-level.

Not sure why the Sens would target him.

I don't think you're wrong, but there is nothing stopping them from adding Chychrun to bolster their roster now, with the intention of either moving someone in the summer. Ekholm can play the right-side if needed.

They don't have depth on defense beyond their top 4. At worst, they are going to need to add a solid defenseman who can play top 4 minutes because they are an injury away from having Kulak or a fringe NHLer in that role.

Chychrun having an additional year of term that is already cost controlled makes him a really dynamic option for a team like Edmonton. It gives them the flexibility to flip him next season to regain most of the assets they gave up to rent him in the first place.

Still. Kicked out of the top 6 here and he got called out in all but name by the coach on that fourth goal. I haven’t loved tarasenko here. Bad fit. Kinda washed.
