I thought the hate on Ceci was just a meme.

He isn't a bad #3-4 defender, or complimentary guy next to a true top pairing D. He's not the 23 minute a night shutdown guy that Guy Boucher played him as, but there is a reason half a dozen coaches have used him in the role they have.

As a moving piece in a Chychrun package, he wouldn't be a bad fit.

Honestly I remember when Ceci was in Ottawa, probably in his 3rd year, a lot of people had this view of him.

He's a glorified 3rd pairing Dman. This guy should never play over 16-17 minutes a night on a good team.

Yikes - the good news keeps on rolling in. These trades have bombed.

Didn't like these quick fix trades for players with short terms. I hate them even more now.
At a huge cost in both cases. Pierre Dorion giving up high first rounders ++ to add to a roster no where near compete level.

Would be hilarious if we traded for Ceci. We literally could've kept him for one season instead of acquiring Zaitsev and having that whole situation.

Anyhow, no to Ceci unless he's stupidly cheap. Oilers have cap issues and don't want to do them any favours.

Who would have thought that a guy who previously demanded a trade would demand a trade here?

It's going to get only harder to attract desirable FAs if good players turn into shit here and then w none of them want to re-sign.

Unless they have a hometown connection, nobody wants to come to Ottawa. That's been a fact for years. The only way to get players here is to overpay then.

This team would be completely hopeless if ownership and management didn’t change.

But as it is, I don’t think any of this matters too much. Andlauer and Staios will change the culture, it just takes time, and then perceptions will shift. Not that I think we’ll ever be a UFA hot bed, but I do think we’ll at least get back to being an org that’s well-respected and a place people enjoy when they actually get here.

How long until we realize it's not DBC or Chychrun that are the problem.
I think it's just as accurate if not more to say neither of them were ever going to be the solution, since both didn't address clear needs that still remain.

It's a bit like when we got Bondra as our deadline acquisition despite being loaded with scoring RWs.

Trade chych at 50% retained for a player a prospect and a 1st.

Flip the player we get back at 50% to another team for another pick and a cap balancer.

Try to do the same thing with tank and kubalik. Move guys with retention for picks and somewhat overpaid players, then flip those players with more retention for more futures. Aim for 4-5 firsts or equivalent in this coming draft.

Keep just enough cap room for some replacement callups.

Tank out the rest of the season.

He wanted to be out of Arizona because they were not competing and he wanted to be part of a competitive team.

Ottawa's arguably the worst team in the NHL, maybe the entire world.

I'm honestly not surprised he wants to GTFO. The only reason we're having this discussion is because he has ties to Ottawa. If he didn't we would already know he's not signing here.
He's the one who made a big deal about coming to Ottawa. He knew there was going to be a massive overhaul of the organization. Something changed. This feels odd.
