So no PintoDeSmith is a great backup and Pearson is a worse player at this point than Kubalik or Brannstrom at this point in his career, if he even has one left.
It would be incredibly stupid to pay a 2nd/3rd to dump Brannstrom or Kubalik when both had positive value in the off-season.
Dorion has undoubtedly put us in a bad situation where we have very little leverage, but I don't believe for a second we'd need to pay that kind of ransom to clear cap.
It's not imperative that we have 13F and 7D right now.
We just need an extra F/D that can step up if a player goes down with injury or illness on game day.
Having an extra scratch certainly isn't worth dumping a solid player like Brannstrom in addition to Kubalik.
I’d say 4 players on buyouts currently is way more than enough. Don’t need anymore cap hits. But they had the buyout option available for nothing more than cash. If they intended on trading him, and adding on sweeteners to do so, then why didn't they just make the obvious move?
i mean they have no room to negotiate. Has that happened before? we are talking about a few hundred thousand dollarsAn important distinction is that we can’t afford to sign him for what he’s asking, rather than what we’re offering.
There is money available, and arguably fair money on a one year deal for him, he just wants more so here we are.
Not with a full roster, we literally have no money. We would have to waive someone, pay him league minimum, and not have any extra forward or dAn important distinction is that we can’t afford to sign him for what he’s asking, rather than what we’re offering.

I don’t much care about this mismanagement angle as its over regardless and that horse has been well whipped. Not with a full roster, we literally have no money. We would have to waive someone, pay him league minimum, and not have any extra forward or d
I don’t think this has ever happened in the cap era. Complete and utter mismanagement by Dorion
But with Joseph playing well, I see the light. Just hoping to see a resolution soon so we get the full gang together
Ice TrayI don’t much care about this mismanagement angle as its over regardless and that horse has been well whipped.
I do care about what I see on the ice. Personally I would not change signing Tank to give Pinto more money. I could see waiting for Bran, but I like him here and think we need him, at least for now.
Kubalik I don’t much care about but think we probably had to take a player in return and he could have value in a trade and he’s a cheap up coming UFA.
Mac was clearly brought in the be our tough guy since everyone else in the division now has someone to play this role. Cheap long term deal to potentially be in and out of the line up.
It’s sucks but I think Pinto should have signed his one year deal before camp and earned his extension when we had money to spend, which is soon. He has no leverage and it should have been a situation where he took what we had room for with the idea that we all know we’ll have more next season, and we can talk extensions as soon as January.
I hate the idea of trading a ‘sweatener’ pick, and a good player away, just to make room for a different good player. Miss management or not we could be running a tight roster with Pinto on it right now.
I raised the Brannstrom thing previously and it was brought to my attention that he was arbitration eligible anyways and that would have had to be settled in advance regardless and we wouldn't have been able to walk away for reasons I can't recall, so that's kind of moot iirc. Best we could have hoped for was him coming in a bit cheaper.I don’t much care about this mismanagement angle as its over regardless and that horse has been well whipped.

Problem is most teams with cap space suck.Ice Tray
WithbTrading Kubalik, you think you need a sweetener attached with it... ?
Don't you think you could offload him to a team in need of scoring for a 3rd or 4th rd pick
I do.Ice Tray

I agree, the complainables are the buy outs, which are already water under the bridge.I raised the Brannstrom thing previously and it was brought to my attention that he was arbitration eligible anyways and that would have had to be settled in advance regardless and we wouldn't have been able to walk away for reasons I can't recall, so that's kind of moot iirc. Tarasenko is showing out a bit already and, I think he will prove people wrong. I think you're right that taking back Kubalik (or another similarly salaried player) was likely required.
If you really want to complain, I think you need to go deeper in the hindsight bag like the Del Zotto buyout or Murray solution. Imo what happened this summer was all good decisions, just didn't add up in the end and Norris going down made it more problematic. With the way Greig is playing, he'd be just fine to fill in for Pinto for now imo.
That said, they can't let a player like Pinto sit all year. It just can't happen, so some sort of resolution has to come and that means someone is gonna have to go. If he were to sit out all year, I think that'd really impact future negotiations negatively.
Problem is most teams with cap space suck.
I agree for the most part, but I think that if we hold off for a while there will be teams that suffer injuries and will be looking for some NHLers to fill in.I think the biggest thing out of the start of this season that’s not talked about enough is how solid Ridly Greig looks. Easily replaces whatever forward we ship out imo
This whole adding a 1st to Joseph I agree is ridiculous, but his okay will either reduce that or might change the strategy on who they move out.
I think we’re gonna need a sweetener no matter what because Dorion backed this roster into a corner, but making that add on as low as possible is key. Pinto clearly has leverage and is asking for market value.
Again I just would rather have it resolved soon, but I think part of this hinges of Norris’ health. They may need to see him play a game before making any trade
I agree, the complainables are the buy outs, which are already water under the bridge.
The GM being fired is also an inevitability, so all that’s left is dealing with the situation in a way that best suits the team going forward.
In my opinion.

Ya I would agree. Maybe it's partly because I did and still do really like the Tarasenko signing, but I just don't see much THIS summer that could have changed anything. Maybe fight hard for Kubalik not to come back and make a concession to do so, in hindsight, but at that point Tarasenko wasn't on the team, so easy to say now.I agree, the complainables are the buy outs, which are already water under the bridge.

In awe that he hasnt asked for a trade? That would make him one super prima dona.Pinto clearly has leverage and is asking for market value, I’m actually in awe he hasn’t asked for a trade - kudos to him

While the circumstances are bad, this isn't that special of a negotiation.
Pinto is a RFA and has zero leverage. We don't know that he and the Senators have even agreed on a number yet. It will get worked out but if he is building a grudge at this point, that doesn't bode well for future negotiations.
We need to do something like Kubalik + Braanstrom + 1st -> Larsson @50% / 2M. What else would we need to add to get a RHD to play with Chabot.
Of course it's on Dorion, that's why I said it's a bad circumstance.I disagree, this is fully on the fault of Dorion and his cap mismanagement. I think it’s foolish to think otherwise personally
Pinto has leverage, that’s why we will be making a trade
We could go after Dumba again for 50% later in the year, but I think we need to push for a better option. While I agree we need a RHD to play with Chabot, Seattle are in 'win now' mode. I doubt they would trade Larsson, who is a top pairing D for them. It would be like us trading Chychrun.
If we find a RHD to play next to Chabot, it's going to be either through sheer luck like we had with Demelo, and then Zub. Or, it will be some sort of half-measure like we had last year with Hamonic beside Sanderson where it's not entirely ideal, but it's the best available option we can actually convince to sign or acquire in a trade.

Striking out on both JBD and Thomson really messed things up. How does Matinpalo look in the AHL? Zub 2.0 hopefully !
I've been thinking they may be seeing if Chabot can play the right side, otherwise they will look to trade him once Kleven is ready and Chychrun's raise is due.
Sanderson - Zub
Chychrun - ???
Kleven - ???
... looks to be the long term plan.
