Why did we sign MacEwen to a bigger contract than Sundqvist or Boqvist?

What exactly does Dorion think makes a good bottom six?
Bodqvist & Sunqvist got the exact same amount $775, the term was 2 yrs longer because Ottawa needed an enforcer type & MacEwen is only 29 yrs old.

It’s also possible that Boqvist would rather play for a team that just set a regular season record over a team that hasn’t made the playoffs in 6 years.

well Heinen is still available.
I know nothing about him, but he looks like he could certainly provide some offence.

Obviously, a 4th line isn't going to produce much, but I worry the 3 guys penciled in there so far are all on the low end of 4th line production, other than maybe Kastelic with some improvement. 12 goals total between the 3 of them last year and most of that was Kasty.

I'm really hoping our 4th line does not ultimately look like what it appears below. Might get 8-10 goals total out of that.

MacEwan - Kastelic - Kelly
I think they have some options depending on who has a good training camp. I think left wing will be between Kelly & Smejkal & the right wing spot between MacEwen & Sokolov. It could also depend who they are playing & which two play that game. IMO Kastelic is locked for the C spot. Sokolov & Smejkal likely bring a little more offence while Kelly & MacEwen bring more jam.

Possible, but maybe there’s a reason guys play in Boston for cheap.

Yeah I lean towards this and I’m no fan of Pierre’s pro scouting.

MacEwan was probably not really very sought after so we convinced him to play here with the extra years. Doubt the other two guys even considered coming here.

I’m sure everyone was like “We should have signed Hasek for cheap” when we picked him up.

We need to start being competitive if we want to start being attractive to free agents.

Right, Smejkal is in there too. I'm nervous on expecting anything from Sokolov, but good mention.

Kelly produced 1 goal last year. I think I speak for everyone when I say he needs to bring more than that, even as a guy in there for his jam. We see more of what we saw last year and I hope he's quickly demoted. Would not be opposed to him needing to play his way back in again.

I still hope a middle 6er is added to push someone down and increase the quality of the bottom that way.
I really hope MacEwan isn’t supposed to be a regular.
Me too. That contract fits well as a 13th/14th forward. With the term, they may be willing to throw him on waivers when needed too.

Depends on what kind of identity they want on that 4th line.
