I do worry about the team if Batherson doesn't re-sign either.

We can talk about "building the team around Stutzle and Sandersn+on" but it may simply be too late to do so.

McTavish doesn't really interest me at all. Just another ~45 point mediocre talent. He doesn't move the needle.
I have no idea what people see in him personally.

I think they get excited that he’s from Ottawa but who cares about that honestly.

We shouldn’t be paying crazy prices for a player that hasn’t archived shit in the league.

Go after guys like Robertson, Machenko, or Barzal guys that have a history of putting some points.

If we are going to gamble on a player like McTavish, why not just gamble on #9 and save $7M over 5 years …

Bringing in Robertson on a long term contract would be a better move than if, in a hypothetical world, Brady would have extended long term here next summer. You get more prime years and fewer past-his-prime seasons on a Robertson contract. Plus the salary Brady will be able to command for a contract starting in two years is going to be much higher as contracts are going to be escalating like crazy in the next few years.

This could be the thing that finally kills my fandom.
There's a real chance for the team to do some incredibly stupid things here in the next two weeks or so. Hopefully they take some time to cool off, and not do anything reactionary or overly emotional.

It's gonna be so gutting to see them trade a bunch of futures for a guy like Debrusk - who isn't very good and is signed forever - or Rust who basically has one foot in the retirement home.

I can handle losing Brady Tkachuk. He barely cracks the top 10 of talented players that have dipped out on the Senators in the last 20 years or so. Just don't make it worse by desperately trying to patch the holes with trash.

Yall ain’t thinking about this enough.

9th overall plus Spence for the 2nd overall.

Stenberg come one down.
I think you're onto something here but don't think its enough for Grier who can just load up on forwards and trade them down the road for defenders.

If SJS is willing to take 9th OA, Spence and another sweetener, maybe the 25th, we could end up with either McKenna or Stenberg. SJS can still draft a solid D prospect at 9th, Spence is probably their 1RD, and they still get draft capital.

I'm getting a Staios tattoo if he can somehow swing 9th, Spence, and something for the 2nd overall

Something tells me this was not a surprise for Staios. Apparently he met with Brady a month ago.

Here you go.
You can give this photo to the tattoo artist:

I don’t know if they have any time to cool off with the draft coming up.

Sure we can look at kneejerk reactions as risky, but making underwhelming picks with Brady’s return could also be very bad. Staios must be aware of how dreadful this team has been at the draft table, no?

I think you're right. If Green had to have a sit down with Brady after the Olympics and tell him to get in the game, then I bet Staios started laying the ground work then.

Oh, I think Staios and Andlauer knew this was coming for quite a while now. Probably for over a year. I can't imagine they were shocked to hear that Tkachuk didn't see himself staying in Ottawa.

But the public and media response to this could easily spur some bad decisions.

I just don't understand why the Canadian teams are so desperate to fight against reality when it stares them in the face. Why are we so desperate to push our chips in to prop up a core that are 2-8 in playoff games?

What are we trying to do here? Get 2 or 3 games of playoff revenue a year or win the Stanley Cup?

If Staios has shown anything, it's that he takes a lot of time to think about what he wants to do. I would be incredibly surprised if it came out that this trade was done on short notice.

I think this whole thing was done in an effort to draft both the Ruck Bros.

Ruckle up!!

Bruce’s most recent article is pretty focused on McTavish.

I don’t watch him enough but if that’s the plan it’s not really all that reactionary imo. It makes sense. We can’t keep all the picks, it’s not needed. Getting a young player they think has upside is the move, but obviously they also have to get it right.

I think the fanbase is desperate given the last 10 years.

I'm not sure thay management is.

A few weeks ago, I openly speculated about teams in the Atlantic that might consider trying to shift their competitive window. I was positive that Ottawa was not one of those teams because of the market. I'm slightly less positive, but weirdly open to the idea of us taking a year or three to shift our window with this core, and rebuild a prospect pipeline we so badly need.

Gotta think about what the best moves are to get the best chance of winning a cup in the new term. Is it to try and compete with that Atlantic as it is now, or wait until other teams windows have flipped? I'm not puking at the idea of pushing it out until teams like Florida, Tampa and Boston finally fall out of their windows. I think each of those teams has anywhere from 1-3 years of window left.

Anyways, it will be interesting to see what Staios does. This is way more interesting that this off season was tracking to be, that's for sure.

you hope there is some sort of plan in place at this point. This didnt come out of no where for them.

The Sens have to improve this roster or else other guys will follow Brady.

It is pointless to rebuild before we do something about this amateur scouting team. We all know we’re not going to get a home-run at 9th.

I have zero interest in watching us try to do so. Short-sighted? Yes, but I’m waiting for them to give me a reason not to be.
