One thing to consider with the Robertson rumours is that a team could take advantage of Dallas with a 1 year 11.9M offer sheet to Robertson.

The reason is, if Dallas matches, they cannot trade Robertson for one calendar year. AKA, he would walk for nothing if not extended. It's the same strategy Colorado was considering with Mark Stone.

If Ottawa or any other team is leveraging an offer sheet for a trade, this is the likely threat. It's why Dallas will move him prior to July 1st.

If you're Ottawa, and you do this offer sheet, you can flip Robertson later to recoup the picks like Carolina did with Rantanen. You will probably even get a better return than what you gave up if Robertson will sign as part of the trade (which he might).

If you're Robertson, of course you sign a 1year at 11.9M. You get a large one year salary as an RFA, and you get to walk to free agency.

This is a really good point that I hadn't considered.

Makes a trade more likely and probably drops some leverage from the Dallas side.

I'm interested to see what happens with Batherson and Zub.

Do they re-sign now that the team has taken a step back?

Makes me think there's going to be a lot of pressure on Staios to acquire talent in the next couple weeks.

If anything, this trade is good for Batherson. He instantly moves up in prominence. It puts him in a better position to re-sign here if he wants that, and he might get more Lepine commercials.

I think like usual with the 9M-10M rumour, we'll see him come down to like 8.35 or something, but he will get 8 years. I think that they keep Stutzle as our top paid scorer.

It is a lot easier to keep Batherson at 8.35 now that we don't have an impending Brady extension at 12M-17M or whatever he would end up at, assuming we're naive enough to believe both sides every thought he might stay.

I think moving up in prominence won't help, since it means the team has gotten worse (for now at least), but I think it makes it more likely we give in to whatever amount he's requesting, assuming the number isn't crazy.

I still think there's another shoe to drop with the Ullmark situation. This organization moves in silence, but I feel like there was too much smoke this season for it to have all gone away.

Since they hired his former goalie coach I doubt he’s going anywhere. They’ve probably just decided to live with the stuff that comes with him. Getting a legit tandem goalie likely helps with that at least.
