The Sens are in a weird spot about the direction of the organization now. They could either lean more fully into a rebuild and part with some other players to load up on picks for this draft. Or they could trade 9th and 25th overall for players to win now. Or they could draft 9th overall and then trade 25th overall for for immediate help.

I haven't followed the draft closely but here are some options. If they want the Ruck twins then they keep 9 and 25 and try to do that.

They could keep 9th overall and draft a guy like Ethan Belchetz who was considered to be a top 3-5 pick early in the season. I am not sure if his upside is viewed the similar now but maybe he is a player that provides high upside.

If they draft a guy like Belchetz they could still arguably have the assets to realistically acquire Mason McTavish and Alexis Lafreniere.

I could see getting McTavish and Lafreniere be appealing to the organization. It would give the Sens two local players that would be enthusiastic to be here and that have untapped upside. It would be something that the Sens could sell to the fans.

Robertson grew up in Michigan, played in the OHL and i read somewhere his fiance is from Kingston. While i still think it’s unlikely to happen, i think people are way too quick to dismiss it bc he was born in California and plays for Dallas.

This is a good team with its two best players just turning 24, locked down long term. Substract Brady and add Robertson, does anyone think we’re a worst team? I don’t. I could see him being interested in joining this core (also that 14M a year contract wouldn’t hurt).

I'm going to call 25th Overall, 72nd Overall, 2027 OTT 1st (Top 10 Protected), and 2027 2nd for Jason Robertson.

That package is better than two 1sts, a 2nd, and a 3rd, that Dallas has to wait longer for.

Robertson signs a 2 year contract with a NMC that kicks in July 1st 2027. Effectively, allowing him to hit free agency at 29yo under a massive salary cap increase. Ottawa is able to push more of the salary into year 2 of the deal.

It sets Ottawa up to where this time next year they can either extend Robertson long term, or flip him to get back some of the assets.

Robertson would be a fairly big upgrade on Brady, so we'd be a better team if we somehow landed him.

The Senators now possess a big asset the Ducks want in return, which is a first-round pick. They could either use the No. 9 or No 25 selections they received from the Panthers in the deal for Tkachuk, along with a prospect to acquire McTavish.

The Senators showed interest in Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust of the Pittsburgh Penguins during the regular season. Would they revisit those talks? We’re told that’s likely.

The Citizen has also reported that the Senators have held talks with the St. Louis Blues about forward Jordan Kyrou. It has been reported in St. Louis that he wouldn’t waive his no-move clause to come to Ottawa. That’s an issue the Senators are going to face.

I'm going to become the joker if they trade 9th OA for McTavish and a bunch more futures for some f***ing mid-30's scrub like Rust.

If LA wants anything more than Zetterlund and who we select at 32nd overall they can screw off.

Our Borque and Lyb are not worth any package that includes our 2027 1st.

Utah can get more for Peterka than the 25th overall.

Sure i'm fine with a Levi swap

I don’t think it’s a great idea to spend that much draft quantity and only get 2 years out of Robertson .

It has to be a long term deal or it’s pointless

If I'm the Dallas Stars I'm pretty excited by the thought of getting Ottawa's next 4 1st round picks completely unprotected. We're in the most difficult division in hockey - how many of those picks end up in the lottery I wonder?
We can’t even do it. I’m pretty sure we’d need our own 1st rounder for an offer sheet, which we dint have.

Every insider knew. It was obvious by how they all talked about it. The reliable ones just kept their mouths shut while the Pagnotta’s of the world blabbed.
I think it's pretty clear that Friedman had a strong inkling, but just couldn't pin down 100% confirmation. That whole bit about 'working on other trade requests' was almost certainly related to Tkachuk.

All things considered the team did a pretty good job keeping this under wraps.

McTavish is the one guy I don’t want

He’s slow, commands $7M over the next 5 years plays centre (we are good) and hasn’t shown anything to suggest he’s 60 point plus player.

But the connections are just too big to ignore and they are 100% going to get desperate and make the Brady trade even worse

Draft #9 for the love of god unless you’re getting Robertson back
