If Canes get Karlsson they would have signed Orlov/Bunting and Karlsson in a trade.

I'd rather Pens get him though. ;)

I honestly don't get signing Eller and letting Poehling walk. Eller is a slower and older version of Poehling at this point. Poehling would've been the better and cheaper option.
Just telling myself it's Swedish influence to lure Karlsson.

Side tangent; I'm still laughing from the "Columbus is better than Pittsburgh now" discourse. I think this team's window is aaaaaabsolutely cooked, and they're pretty f***ing mediocre and will be fighting for a WC spot, but that seems a bit silly to me. Babcock's trash and their big pickups were a shitty Provorov, a decent Severson, and a kid in Fantilli who realistically performs/produces similarly to Beniers, a kid who was arguably the best forward prospect in the league.

They have the best defensive prospect not in the league in Jiricek. They have a bunch of young forwards and they had a ton of injuries last year.

Carolina also has to consider Necas, Jarvis and Aho raises next summer. The cap increase might cover 1 of those guys only.

He possibly has some lingering back issue.

Kent Johnsson, Cole Sillinger, Marchenko, Texier, Bemstrom, I mean they are deep.

See they actually have good players in their bottom six. They missed Werenski all of last year, and added even better Dmen this year. Jirieck is also the best D in hockey.

Why is it so crazy to think a team who is deep up front and on the back end is gonna better than an old, zero depth team?

They should've let Poehling walk and *not* signed Eller. Tellin' me they couldn't wait a day or two for the smoke to clear before going after a lame ass, cheap bottom-6 center option? Hell, throw E-Rod $3 million and see if he'd bite to come back and center the 3rd line. /shrug

Poehling sucks though. He was pretty awful last season despite every once in a blue moon having a good shift.

Babcock sucks shit and is a moron who is gonna get the worst out of his skilled guys, and their goaltending is arguably even worse than this team's dogshit in net.

I think they'll be improved on the team that finished with the 2nd worst record in hockey (because they eeked out the extra point against the Pens), but I really doubt they're gonna be challenging for a playoff spot, man.

No he wasn't awful at all.
He had 14pts and was just as bad as everyone else in the worst bottom-6 in hockey but he was a new arrival so he gets some kinda weird pass. Dude was a warm body out there, nothing more.

I don’t see Nylander going from 9 games to 3rd line regular. DOC is certainly ahead of him on the depth chart and the better player. Nylander wasn’t even a Dubas acquisition or re-sign (I’m not even sure who the hell re-signed him since we were between GMs), it’s possible he has him as the 13th forward or even lower. He seems like a #13 kinda guy to me.

Agreed much more upside IMO too. He's 24 and had perhaps his best season with some lingering injury issues.

Maybe he still has them maybe he's doesn't, I am not going to get worked up over it.

Loved his game when he was young and you seen flashes of it.
