Although a good point to mention is that with the Graves acquisition, you're once again in a position where you don't have a spot for both POJ and Smith. I think Smith as a part of the Karlsson deal also makes a lot of sense, but I'm skeptical he'd be adding much value to that package.

Maybe San Jose gets Smith as an extra thank you for taking back Granlund's deal? Smith obviously has no future here if the Penguins have both Letang and Karlsson on their defense.

I feel like a Karlsson deal would look something like this:

-Penguins get Karlsson at $8.5 million
-Sharks get Petry, Granlund, Pickering and a 2024 1st while retaining $2 million on Karlsson
-Team C gets a 2025 2nd from the Penguins while retaining $1 million on Karlsson.

That is a horrible deal for us. Why would we trade our #1 prospect & a first for an aging defensemen? Especially considering we are no where near competing for a Cup.
