Trocheck is basically exactly what we were looking for. He is a good forechecker, has good wheels and can play all situations. Big thing with this 2C slot was to bring in a guy with a different playing style than Strome.

I personally think Trocheck is better than Copp so pending the contract I'm happy with him being the middle 6 C we bring in. Mika as a bonafide 1C and then Trocheck and Chytil as your 2 middle 6 centers is definitely an extremely solid center group.

he disappeared like everyone else against tampa

the problem for years so far has been whenever chytil starts looking really good he gets hurt or something happens and then he takes forever to get back up to speed again

for a team that wants to contend, you don't rely on that as your 2C

We just decided he isn't a "2C" whatever that actually is, without giving him so much as a sniff at it, so we can spend cap space we don't have instead.

I'd be amenable starting the season Mika, Fil, Goodrow, Rydahl down the middle and see what happens. But that's me.

im not delusional, the brass for zib trade IS a unicorn and people here have been bringing it up to replicate for years.

if we are talking about moving assets from this team that we have and cashing them in that is what you do. having your top two centers getting paid w big contracts at 29 and 30 running concurrent is exactly how you effectively set a closing date on your window for contention bc it is tied to when they both fall off but still are getting paid handsomely. there needs to be an offset

Honestly, I've seen it used more as a cautionary tale to not do something incredibly stupid with Kakko, Laf or Chytil... I know I've brought it up that way. If people are EXPECTING to land another deal like that in our favor, well those Gomez for McD, Bras for Zib type deals can't be banked on.

Trocheck would be a little underwhelming for all we’ve heard about potential 2C targets but he’s a great fit here. Although if we only end up signing Trocheck+Martin Jones+depth player we wouldn’t be drastically improved for next season

I could see that with kids like Laf/Kakko/Kravtsov who need more confidence at this level or even Kreider with his unique skills.

Panarin is supposed to be a Hart-caliber player. Filip Chyil is not Kevin Rooney or Cody McLeod. If he can't work with Chytil, he's not as good as he thinks he is.

agree on this though, Panarin needs to be good enough to play with whoever he needs to play with, not thsi strome bullshit that f***ed up his game
