Well firstly, Copp didn't really play a whole lot of center for the rangers. Secondly, I know he was probably hurt but that 2nd line was hot dog shit in the playoffs. He may have some chemistry with Panarin, but it wasnt ground breaking. I wasnt against bringing Copp back, but that ship is completely sailed now, hes gone. Onward and upward.
right and the line sucked ass bc the panarin strome pond hockey didnt work and panarin was scared of the middle of the ice. how is trocheck changing that? how is putting kakko or kratsov changing that?

is someone really suggesting that panarin trocheck kakko/kravtsov is going to be that much better than panarin strome copp was? huh? the idea of carrying one of the young wingers on the side of paanrin was in large part based to a substantial center improvement on strome. trocheck isnt a substantial improvement

I like Copp but Trocheck is a better player. The Rangers also clearly did not see Copp as a center because they barely played him there despite the need. Also if you want to talk about contract years, Copp had his first 50 point season this year (Paarin bump)
im not advocating for signing copp. i am just stating how funny it is that people dont want copp but want trocheck. and copp played wing bc he can and strome cant.

So are we pinning the successes/failures of the 2 teams strictly on Strome and Trocheck?

Seems kind of silly.
hang on, so you are going to take something i said, manipulate it, then when i straighten that out you're going to turn around and twist my words again? I am not playing this game with you.

EVERYONE here has targeted 2c as a place that needs significant improvement. signing a 29 year old to the numbers being suggested boxes you out of the ability to actually do that. trocheck is a 3c on a cup contender regardless if he has played 2c minutes on non contenders...

Copp is a concussion away from retirement. So is Mika. Can't have your two top centers in that same situation.
This is in the back of my mind too. Not saying it’s fact but I just have that feeling from what I’ve read and - to an extent - seen. It’s easy to dismiss that kind of thing in favor of optimism. And bad injuries can happen to anyone. But it’s not bad to minimize risk.

Sather favorite day of the year.

can someone explain to me why they have massive issues paying copp who we know fit here basically the same money it would take to get trocheck, but those same people are willing to pay trocheck? Their 5v5 scoring is fairly close if not leans to copp based on a quick look at numbers, they are comparable historically on faceoffs, copp is younger, we know copp played great with panarin already without strome on the line (he and panarin were great together until strome came back). I just dont understand how people can be like screw copp but are in love with trocheck.

I would prefer Copp but all indications are that the NYR are not sure he is a full time C (don't agree personally) plus he may have had his heart set on Detroit.
