"Lou won some cups" yeah, an eon ago in relative terms.

Thats like Ranger fans begging to bring Smith back today because he won in 94.

Lou is a dinosaur, and will be turning to oil very soon.

Lou won those cups mostly because the 2-line pass rule and the Devils' neutral zone trap forced opponents to dump the puck, and Brodeur was so good at puck handling that he was basically a third defenseman.

I think the Rangers can get Kane at the deadline for better than people think. Kravtsov, 2023 2nd, 2024 1st, something like that. And I think they can resign Kane if he takes a Malkin type deal and Chytil or Kakko is moved. I’m not advocating for it (wouldn’t do it) but I could see it as a path the organization takes.

Re-signing Kane would require a much heftier salary than Kakko or Chytil to be moved. You're talking either Trouba or Kreider.

Dallas.

The Stars tried to acquire Burns from San Jose. He has a 3 team trade list and the Stars were on his list. Dallas and San Jose couldn't complete the deal. The Hurricanes didn't give up much for Burns. No top prospects and no top draft pick. San Jose retained 33% of the Burns contract. Carolina wasn't on the 3 team list. Burns agreed to the trade to Carolina. Maybe Dallas wanted San Jose to retain more than 33%.

The Stars are looking to replace Klingberg. They spoke to Klingberg again on Wednesday. Nothing.

Montreal is looking trade Petry but they will not retain any salary or give up assets to remove the $6.25M cap hit. The Stars can not afford that contract. Montreal is not looking to take back money. Petry does not work for them.

Dallas signed Marchment. 4 years/$18M.

Dallas still has to sign Robertson and Oettinger. They have $11M-$12M of cap space. That money will go towards Robertson and Oettinger.

The Stars signed Colin Miller to a 2 year deal. $1.85M. Depth player.

The Stars don't have a young D to replace Klingberg and they don't have the money for a replacement.

Lundkvist to Dallas for Bourque.
I bet he likes Trump... Who wants to go to Texas?

So are the Rangers done? Upgraded the 2C spot but not by a crazy amount. I guess the 4C slot is set now?

Ryan Carpenter acquisition is seen as being the potential 4C solution. Some prospects are going to be looked at too.

Yeah I figured that would be the case. I’d like to leave some spots open for kids. Especially in that 3rd LD spot.

It's just not a kid-conducive environment right now. I don't see many kid-friendly opportunities.

I think we should take the over-ripening way Detroit was known for.

I think we all saw the issues with how we rushed certain young prospects up or just didn’t have the right position open for them. We failed to develop some guys because of this, let’s try the opposite. I’d rather them continue to at least develop and work on their game with as many minutes as possible and fail that way. Let them all go back to Junior/AHL

I mean we have a plethora of options for the 4th line and 3rd pair. Top9 and top4 are set.

4th line - Goodrow, Cuylle/Blais, Hunt, Reaves, Brodz, Carpenter, Rydahl, Gauthier

3rd pair - Schenider, Jones, Robertson, Lundkvist

when we have this many players... it's easier for our coach to make the wrong choice lol

Rangers took care of the most important position they needed to address , so I’m content.

A lot of people sleeping on Brodz. IMO he was our best 4th liner last season. Was giving the short end of the stick.

His speed and pace is a major asset.

Thing about Brod is that he's such a good scorer in the AHL but he averages barely over ten minutes a game in his limited NHL action, so it doesn't really translate. He still manages to get off a lot of shots on goal for the time he plays, but his shooting percentage to this point has been really poor.

I'm all for giving him a fair shot

Disagree the LD is going to Jones likely plus Robertson and Lundkvist are call ups

Hajek is just going to spare like last year

Cuylee starts in the AHL but likely gets call ups

Come the deadline sure vets will be added but the regular season is open for kids

It's harder to do this when guys are signed on ELC's and in the minors. For the Junior guys with contracts eligible to slide, yeah send them back but "top" prospects in the A are going to want to play in the NHL sooner rather than later so that they can try to earn more on their 2nd contract. That isn't happening if they're stashed in the minors until they're leaving their early 20s/in their mid 20s.

Then again, the only prospect who played the majority of the season last year in the minors unfairly was Jones. Both Robertson and Nils (assuming neither are moved) both still need AHL time.

Would give a 1 for 800 K to a vet dman out there to compete with Hajek for the 7th spot in camp, Hajek as 7th d is gross, he’s truly awful.

Calvin De Haan would be an upgrade, pretty much any of the vet dmen left by now aren’t getting any money.

If they stink, and Hajek beats them out, you waive them, and it’s no cost to the cap.

The LD position is one spot out of a nightly 20-spot system. Laf, Chytil and Kakko, while they are still "kids," I don't consider them new at this point, and they're going to have spots unless something cataclysmic happens. There might be an opportunity on the fourth line, but Carpenter is signed, Goodrow might shuttle in and out of that line, and Blais is returning and where is he gonna play? I can see Kravtsov not being a 100% shoe-in for a spot, but still, assume he's in there, pushing Blais out of the top 9. And yes, injuries will happen, so guys like Cullye and Othmann could get call-up opportunities during the season. But I get this feeling that guys like Gettinger and Brodzinski are on top of the call-up pecking order in the eyes of Gallant and Drury.
