Too bad the Devils will have to get into the playoffs first
If the Devils got Gaudreau they would have worried me a bit. That forward group would have been a tremendous pain in the ass. Bratt, Hischier, Hughes, Sharangovich, with Geaudreau added yikes. Small for sure, but they're like waterbugs they don't stop moving and they have a ton of talent. Pallat isn't as worrisome. Still a good player, they overpaid for him though, worse than we overpaid for Trocheck. Trocheck is a better player. More rounded.

I think the Devils have a really good group of young players we shouldn't downplay. They're going to be a tough as hell team in a couple of years especially if their D develop and they find a goaltender.

The fact they haven't signed a vet D gives me hope Jones is being heavily considered to take a spot.

Jones has a skill set we need. He's great at moving the puck in transition.
Wouldn’t hold you breath on that. They’re going to sign a veteran D, I can’t imagine Jones and Schneider as the pairing going into the season being okay with Gallant

Not sure if this has been posted already

Totally agree. He has a lot of upside and is also great in the offensive zone. Lots of creativity and he has the balls to make plays on the blue line.

Kane at the deadline would be a based move by Drury. If the Rangers are amongst the top of the league and look ready for a deep playoff run, then if he wants to push his chips in for P. Kane, so be it.

A future hall of famer that has epic championship experience, then I get it, fine. Let him do insane things with Panarin.

J.T. Miller on the other hand needs to stay in Vancouver for eternity so their fans can keep saying "J.T. Miller to NYR" for amazing things and it can be a perennial comedy for everyone to laugh at their delusion.

I just hope Gallant is willing to accept some mistakes. Players like Jones, as you mentioned, have the balls to make plays with the puck, but sometimes that will lead to a turnover. Allow him to make mistakes and grow from them instead of burying him. Honesty, though, he didn't really make many mistakes with the puck to begin with, so it probably wouldn't be an issue. The only thing I can see working against him is his size. But the last time the Rangers won a Cup they had Leetch and Zubov. There's room for more than one defenseman that has offensive creativity. Fox and Jones. Then you add what Miller brings, and this defense group is pretty dynamic.

Interesting that Tyler Motte is still unsigned and was not part of the group Thank you & Farewell post by the Rangers social media team. There is not a money left out there unless Motte wants to play for a Seattle or a Anaheim. Plus those teams probably prefer to backfill their team with cheap ELCs for more looks and opportunity imo. Teams in the middle that had some cap have spent their money such as Detroit and Ottawa for example. Maybe there is a team that will pay him what he wants but at this point why would they do that with the market competition basically non-existent, especially for a 4th line winger. Not even a center. That team would almost be bidding against themselves

All in all I can see Motte taking a 1-2 year deal at $1-$1.5 range at this point. I think that works well for him too to get back to free agency after this season or the following after having been a part of what could be multiple deep playoff runs with a lot of exposure.

I don’t think it’s all that crazy he wasn’t on that tweet. He hasn’t signed elsewhere yet and there’s still a small, albeit unlikely chance he’s stays here

Drury pretty much said they’re moving on, unless he’s taking a pay cut he can go elsewhere

Norris is a stud. Terrific exciting player.
that Karlsson trade ended up being a blessing for Ottawa and curse for San Jose, just how that Duchene trade was a curse for Ottawa and a blessing for Colorado.

Now that strome, mckegg and georgiev are gone the team is a beauty. As long as Tinordi stays banished to Hartford I have no scapegoat. Nice.
McSmeggma signed a 2 way deal in Edmonton, he'll be waived by Novemeber and i bet you we pick him up again lol.

I read he turned down close to 2 million with Vancouver but looks like he may get squeezed by the market.

This organization and the front office's mindset is solidly in win-now mode. Trocheck is here for that reason. Can he put the team over, remains to be seen. Otherwise Chytil would be 2C.

Gallant is not likely to substantially increase the youngsters' ice times this year. He will probably stay largely with the same lineup, power play, and ice time distribution. Old school coaches like Gallant are creatures of habit, especially when they're successful with a certain formula. Then they run that formula into the ground.

Kid development is going to take a back seat once again as long as the Cup window exists. They got ahead of schedule on the hybrid rebuild and getting to the ECF only exacerbated the win-now mindset. I don't think the youngins will get moved, but if any of them crash heavily and there's moves to be made at the trade deadline to improve Cup pwin, Drury will stone-cold do them without remorse. The guy does not operate on emotion or attachment or empathy.

The kids will continue to find themselves between a rock and a hard place in this organization. In a win-now situation, they will need to succeed despite opportunities being few and far between.

They have 4 young defenseman combating for the final 2 spots.

Robertson and Jones for 3LD - Schneids and Lundkvist for RHD

may the best man win

I would love to see Jones get a FAIR chance. Really would. Bottom line is weather Gallant is gonna allow it. Let's see if we can provide some competent bottom pairing play rather than going and handing out 2-3 year deals to guys who can't even skate. If he can't handle the challenges of an entire season go out and grab a Braun type at the TDL.

Sorry but this is just plain crazy. Win now mode, Kid development out the door, Hitting on Gallant and Drury. I don't get it. This team was 2 games from the Stanley Cup Final. Of course they are in a win now mode. But they are doing it with a good blend of vets and young guys. What do you want them to do? Take steps back? Have a 10 year plan to win the cup? Please. The young guys that have earned playing time are playing. There is no guarantee that all the young guys will prove to be good players. This is not a hybrid rebuild it is a balanced approach. As for Drury all he has done with maybe the exception of Nemeth has been all good. Gallant is not perfect but has again he elevated the team's play.

I am so tired of reading posts like this where people just complain and think the entire team should be made up of unproven and in some cases undeserving 20 year old players. The teams that win have a balance of vets and young guys. You use both and in some cases you use some of the younger prospects to fill holes at a particular position lacking depth.

I think nils and jones will be the two to compete for the bottom pair. Both are good options, I think with how schneider played last season Gallant has trust that he can be the stronger on a pair and carry it.

Agree. I'd love to see Jones and Robertson battle for that spot in camp. And give who ever wins that spot a legit consistent chance to keep it.

I'd be shocked if Schneider lost his spot.

But I agree. I like this situation on D. If we sign a vet D I hope it's for the 7th D spot and insurance.
