Reading the Debs board right now is incredible. The meltdown is delicious.
I was trying to find the part when he signed in Columbus and went a page or two before. They were discussing how Kakko and Laf are busts.
They really have the craziest inferiority complex I’ve ever seen. It’s so conditioned they can’t tell.

f*** that poverty franchise.

LOL good luck with that. 7 years for a 50 point player. Traded a 1st, several 2nds, lost Copp, Motte, Strome, Vatrano, and replaced them all with said 50 point player.

Listen I’m not super high on the Trochek signing either but let’s be real, we lost Copp, Strome, Motte, Vatrano, and replaced them with Trochek, Kravtsov, Blais and Rydahl. At least be fair in the counting.

What I mean is, not that we are Vegas, but we need to be careful because too many moves focus on today rather than long term success.

If they trade Kakko for something that improves the team it’s not a bad move. Could still happen and it wouldn’t be an apocalyptic event for this team

We didn't really "lose" guys like Copp, Vatrano, or Motte. Those guys were TDL rentals and we all knew that we only had a realistic chance to sign Copp, or to sign Vatrano with no other substantial signings, or maybe Motte depending on his asking price. It seems weird to hear people complaining about losing them because we knew that was going to happen (or, maybe some people didn't...). Basically they chose to sign Trocheck instead of Copp--which makes sense--and that was the end of the other two. This is how it works when you rent players at the deadline; most of the players will subsequently leave in the off-season. That's why they're called rentals.

It’s clear that should Trochek have been available at the deadline, Drury would have preferred him. So instead of using the assets to acquire Copp, we can look at it like they used those same assets to acquire Trochek. I’m happy Drury didn’t just let Copp walk and then trade additional assets for someone like Miller. That would have passed me off

Still would like to get Motte back in the fold. Can we get him down to $1.75 x 2. Helps both player and team. Team keeps the depth for playoff run over next 2 years. Player gets back to free agency in 2 years when salary cap is expected to rise

Crazy high? OK if I hook you up with some politicians in Sweden to talk some sense into them? We also have 25% VAT on everything and you can’t deduct anything.

Those numbers can't be accurate, Canada's highest income tax rate is 55%. 8 Canadian provinces have rates over 50%. Here in BC we also have a 12% sales tax on everything, some provinces have 15%. Then there's exorbitant carbon taxes, property taxes, etc. The average Canadian spends more on taxes than they do on clothes, food & shelter combined.

The one that hits the hardest is our 27.5% duties you need to pay on any foreign purchase over a measly $20. They even charge this on gifts you receive.

People need to not pay attention to guys a day after the season when they say they have unfinished business, Giroux and Chiarot had unfinished business in Florida, Copp had unfinished business here, it’s just nonsense.

Still need to make a move or two. The metro has become considerably better and we haven’t improved. Sure we upgraded from Strome to Trocheck and Georgiev to Halak/Domingue (if even)

But aside from that we’re still losing Copp, Vatrano, Braun, and Motte

The upgrade from Strome to Trocheck doesn’t cover all of that

People always say that the paycheck is the only thing that matters but it's very clear that especially among these star players there's more to it than that.

70 million dollars in a place you really want to be in is going to be a hell of a lot more enjoyable than 85 somewhere you hate. When you're getting to figures that large, quality of life is gonna start to matter more than if you're trying to get from 2 million in career earnings to 5-10 million.

Exactly. The paycheck is king sentiment probably did rule way more back in the 90s when even in the NFL star players were getting like $20m deals. Emmitt Smith signed an extension for like $12 million coming off a rushing crown.

These days, what the hell is the difference for Patrick Mahomes to make $212m or $234m? Nothing. It’s incomprehensible to him either way, with endorsements that difference will not matter to him one iota in his life.

Even hockey is getting there and they are the lowest paid of the big four sports by far. $70m or $86m? Who gives a crap. Obviously all things being equal I’ll take the $86m, but if I get out of a place I hate?

Your life is a finite asset and 7 years is very possibly 10% of it. Less money to enjoy where you live is a real thing. The $16m can’t possibly make a quality of life difference.

I hated Strome on this team and am glad I will never watch him play here again. And he’s going to play on loser squads the rest of his career

But there are certainly worse places you can end up than spending your late 20’s/early 30s as a millionaire in Anaheim

Even Drury said it looks like there isn't cap to sign Motte. It's Kakko and maybe a league minimum 4th liner. That's it.
