People need to not pay attention to guys a day after the season when they say they have unfinished business, Giroux and Chiarot had unfinished business in Florida, Copp had unfinished business here, it’s just nonsense.
I think part of it is that we seem to not often pursue pure rentals like we did last year, and some here are having issues reconciling things. Some cognitive dissonance with the desire to add rentals to win a Cup and the reality that those players will then leave for no return.

Incredibly bad. Drury spent 7 mil on Trocheck (7 years) and Halak while giving away a 2nd round pick to get rid of the previous awful contract he handed out last summer.

Strome, Copp, Vatrano, Motte all out and only Trocheck and his awful contract in.

Meanwhile our division rivals are actually improving their teams.

Within the span of several months Drury gave up a 1st, a handful of 2nds and we have what to show for it?
Incredibly good within the context of (i) cap constraints that they mitigated with term, (ii) a tight market for high end centers and (iii) picking value goalies.

I hated Strome on this team and am glad I will never watch him play here again. And he’s going to play on loser squads the rest of his career

But there are certainly worse places you can end up than spending your late 20’s/early 30s as a millionaire in Anaheim
Yep. Anaheim is not particularly interesting as a city, but it's so close to LA and San Diego and a whole host of other upscale beach towns.

Trochek was my vote on the preferred Center thread. I think he fits the mold of what Drury is trying to build. A “team that‘s tougher to play against”

Losing Copper, Frankie Vats, Motte and Strome is tough. 4 players that fit in well. Strome was the whipping boy. Miss two big open nets when the games matter and that’s going to put you in NYR fan doghouse. At the end of the day though, Strome had a very good run here in NY. They got him on the cheap and he will be missed by the guys in the room for sure. Missed by the fans. Probably not so much. You can tell these guys were tight. The thought of losing Copp a month or so ago would have come as a surprise to me. Team gave up a lot to get him. He produced when here, and he too seeemed to be very well liked and welcomed with open arms. The shoot first winger that this board coveted was short lived. But that’s the business side of hockey. What was more important to the franchise? A #2 Center with the intangibles or the winger to complement that 2nd line?

I’m good with GM’s decisions today. The younger Trochek at $5.6 over the older Kadri at $8 mil to me is a far better play knowing there are bigger RFA’s in just one more season the club has to sign.

Happy that Drury found a home for his bad contract. Not so happy it cost him a second rounder and a third or whatever the other pick was.

That Trocheck contract is structured just about as well as anyone could’ve hoped. Good job turning the NMC into a limited NTC after 3 seasons, like the flexibility.

On Gaudreau, it’s weird seeing a player leave the only team he’s ever played for and they’re good to go to a rebuilding team for less money but location matters to people. And choosing Columbus over NJ and NYI isn’t really that crazy. Columbus is a nice city, suburbs seem like a nice place to raise a family there and money will go a bit further. And sometimes “going home” means being close enough that visiting is a breeze but not so close that your family is overbearing. Being an hour flight away or a 6ish hour drive is a pretty nice sweet spot. Plus if he was a Flyers kid it’s not surprising that he wouldn’t wanna go to rivals of theirs.

This is honestly an incredible day. I can’t believe this. Thank you Johnny. Thank you Lou, and thank you Tommy Fitzgerald. Thank you for eating at Friendly’s. Oh, and Whris Wrury is the man.

i don’t care that he signed in the Metro, but Gaudreau going to Ohio and making Fitzgerald AND Lou rage quit their press conferences is my favorite thing about today besides Trocheck signing.

Even the Calgary GM had the stugots to face the media.
They did what?!
