I agree, I just wish we could get Marner signed before contracts like that get handed out. It's like Eichel contract 2.0

So this is why everyone thinks Marner will break 10.5 million on his contract. Because Buffalo is stupid, TB,COL and the LEAFS will have to get stupid with Point, Rantanen and Marner. That's everyone's logic?

Cant wait until proven otherwise. If Marner doesn't accept the Leafs hard ball offer he can sit all season. The Leafs should be perfectly fine with it. COL and TB will do the same with their players. We all have to understand that TB, COL and LEAFS have their top players locked up. The pay scale of each contract has been set. Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see all three be signed to bridge 2-3 year deals at a lower average.

Why wouldn't the Leafs resign Marner at 6-7 million on a 2,3,4 year deal? When Marleaus contract is off the books re-negotiation an extension for Marner. Can this be done?

In theory, it could be done, but I doubt Marner goes for it. Why take that risk, the injury risk, something going wrong... you cash in, while things are going well.
 
To be fair, in the past 4 seasons, Jeff Skinner has scored like the 3rd most even strength goals in the league. 6 behind OV and 7 behind Kane.

9M is more than I’d want to give him, but it’s not outrageous.

Probably 1-1.5M more then you'd expect and that term is scary for a guy with his concussion history.
 
Some people may not like me suggesting this, but if we trade Zaitsev... maybe its worth gambling on Voynov?

There would HAVE to be a lot of homework done. If guys like Muzzin suggest that Voynov is a good guy that made a stupid mistake and would be great to add to the organizaiton, then I'd considering going in on a 1 or two year deal.

It’s something I’ve thought about.

However the Leafs have worked tirelessly the past 4 years to change the culture around this team.

I don’t see us being the ones to extend the olive branch to Voynov

People will go ape **** if we bring Voynov in, I'm no moralist and i wouldn't care but all hell would break lose from virtually every quarter of society with that one

Leafs going after Voynov would be a real mess in the media, and on Social Media, for at least a couple of days. People have no attention span at all. There would be a new story, something else to have hurt feelings about, and the world would soon forget.

Zaitsev to Team X for second round pick. Second round pick to LA for Voynov rights.

I think we'll do better then most think in a Zaitsev trade but I think getting a 2nd rounder for him and no salary back would be quite the return.....my expectations are a bit lower.

i think Voynov to the leafs might be a good idea. for 2 reasons.

1. If he comes out of the gate and plays like the top 2-4 defender he was with L.A it would be smooth sailing after a month or 2.( will always have someone moaning about it, but that outrage would dampen a lot)

2. they could spin it like everyone deserves a second chance. the guy did a shitty thing. wasn't the first wont be the last. but as people have pointed out he is still with his wife and they seem to have moved on past it . so why cant the rest of the world.

3. 2 year max contract for his protection and ours. under 2 million. aav ( if he plays the way he did its a bargain for us for a couple years. if he doesnt we can bury him and terminate the contract with minimal issues.) ( For him if he doesnt miss a beat it lines him up for a payday in 2 years. if he isnt serviceable any longer he will go back to the Khl)

4. Should be cheap to facilitate a trade for his rights.

5. Why the Hell not. atleast explore the possibility

Thinking is maybe someone that fell out of favour in another organization and *some* money to balance things.

Pysyk apparently not loved in Florida right now and they want to change their defense.

I could see that, I read somewhere that Dallas may be interested and the Canucks might have some intrest

Honka + mid rounder?
Pysyk for Zaitsev + something small?
Canucks mid rounder + nothing prospect for Zaitsev?

Do you think Dallas tries to send back Nichushkin to try to offload some cap?

Vancouver would likely want to send Tim Schaller (1.9M for 1 more year)
