With Karlsson being rumoured to the rangers and the acquisition of Fox by them as well, i could see the leafs targetting the odd man out there.

I can definitely see a deal with Edmonton materializing include players mentioned. It helps both teams and all players.

Will be interesting to follow.

:leafs
RW Jesse Puljujarvi
RD Adam Larsson
2nd round pick 2019

:edmonton
RW Kasperi Kapanen
RW Connor Brown
RD Nikita Zaitsev

Would give us a lineup of:
Hyman-Tavares-Marner
Johnsson-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Kadri-Mikheyev
Moore-Gauthier-Puljujarvi
Petan

Rielly-Larsson
Muzzin-Dermott
Rosen-Liljegren
Borgman-Holl

Andersen-Sparks

We may not have a full roster, but it would solve most of our cap issues.

Rumours have Buffalo and Jeff Skinner close on a deal at a reported 8 years 9 million per.

No need to hear another word about Matthews, Tavares, Nylander or Marners (potential) deals.

I take any and all of the above over Skinner at 8 years 9 per, who averages roughly 54/55 points per 82 games played.

UFA deal coming off a 40 goal season on a bad team. I would too take any of the above, but that was what Skinner was going to get. It's also why Skinner was not going to be on my list of Marner replacements.

Other option would be to drop Puljujarvi and Kapanen and then add a prospect like Bracco (or maybe less).

He also scored 4 in his last 25 games.

I honestly didn't think he'd get 9 per, was looking more at 7.5-8 max. Anyways, either way if deals like this are the new norm, lockout coming soon.

Whatever. It's good for us. Buffalo will be in permanent rebuild mode if they have to overpay everybody.

Julius Honka

Nikita Zaitsev

Thoughts?

I've speculated Dallas likely having some interest in Zaitsev for the right price. Only 4 signed defenseman going into next season and a good chunk of change to spend. I'm sure they'll be looking for a PK capable defenseman.

I would probably make that deal. If Honka gives us decent depth, it's a win... if not, we get out of a bad contract. I'd probably want a mid round pick or something but the basis is there.

Ouch!
And 27 years old

How about Shattenkirk. Seems to be like he will be the odd person out. Rangers would need to retain in the deal and he would be the ideal top pairing partner for Reilly.

I don't see it. After his injury, Shattenkirk was even slower than usual, was always just, ok defensively before that, and is essentially a PP specialist who needs sheltering now. I'd rather have a defensively strong guy, who's skating is a strength.

They'd have to pay us to take him IMO.

part of the reason Skinner will get that much is directly related to Dubas' contributions to setting the market, I hear the NHLPA is considering naming him their "man of the year." :sarcasm:

Where do you keep coming up with this stuff?
Its the blender thing - just keep moving players around for the sake of it I guess.
Usually I post trades where I'm not sure if the value matches up one way or another. If I'm pretty confident that a trade would match up value wise I wouldn't ask other people for their opinions on it.

And not all the trades I post would be trades I would actually do, I'm just throwing random ideas around.

No worries mate. The only thing I was thinking about is that teams tend to have more of a tendency to keep their guys especially the ones they drafted. No big wup one way or another though.

Okay so even though that trade is obviously very unlikely, what do you think of the value swap regardless?

Pretty good with one small cautionary note that I haven't a huge amount of data about Kakko except for recent international tournament and a bit of reading. He sure seems to be the real deal though.
