He is certainly is not wrong.

Fans and media here vilify D almost like no other place. Just look at Gardiner.
No he is definitely not wrong at all. 80% of the Leafs fanbase are not the brightest hockey minds and they do pick on defenders like Gardiner.

Unfortunately in the case of Zaitsev the reason he has to go is not simply because hes a defender in Toronto. Its because he handles the puck like a grenade, cant make a crisp tape to tape pass and is being paid 4.5 mil longterm. Hockey is a passing game, and the D men are a huge part of that...Every guy in your top 4 needs to be able to move the puck.

I'm saying that the Rangers are better served at this stage to draft and develop. That appears to be the plan they have embarked upon. I think another year or so of drafting high will put them into a good position to become a good team not too long afterwards.

In general, we are the team with big motivation to come up with fancy deals to get rid of Marleau. Other teams, not so much, because they are generally competitive teams that already have cap issues, or they are drafting and developing. For the draft & develop teams, your going to have to throw incentives at them that they find meaningful, not some scrap.

send PM to Ottawa,, more cap hit then cash paid,,something that is good for Otts owner

PM is still close to his family

and we send them a prospectr/pick for their rebuilding team.

Kap and Johnson for Pulju and a 2nd?
That's atrocious on so many levels. At minimum either one of those I'd trade for Bear(the prospect with some nhl games) +38 pick +2020 2nd. I'd aim at Larsson with either. Pulju is a bust who has proven nothing so far and just had surgery done( think it was for his hip). A 2nd is nothing for kap/AJ and the only time it makes sense to take is if it's from an offersheet which we cant afford for one of them.

Yeah I agree the value isn't much from Edmonton's side. In the context of offer-sheets though Toronto may lose those guys for 2nd rounders if they don't want to match a $3.5-$4.2 contract.

Rather lose one of them to an offersheet than give both up for nothing. If we end up losing one of them via offersheet*( meaning dubas failed his job by not focusing on them soon enough and letting the marner negotiations get out of hand) than we have enough room to keep the other and match a 4.2 million dollar offersheet for the other guy.

3 seasons in the NHL and he hasnt shown the ability to produce. He has not put up numbers expected of a 4th overall pick in the AHL. He would be acquired expected to become a top line player and be instantly productive. We are preparing to fix the roster holes so we dobt suffer humiliation by the Bruins again and can finally try and win the cup with this group of players. Puljuarvi is way too much of a longshot and not a good pickup for this team.

oh i think you have given up on him way way way too early.

If I am forced to take sides id side with this - he's 1) only 21 and has lit up the A 2) only played 120gp across 3 scattered seasons in that crapshow out west. Same place Hall went from expendable winger to league MVP after leaving.

I'd definitely take a chance on him.

oh yup, given that mess of a team/organisation he is on , that is the kind of a franchise (like Zona) where you pluck a guy out (aka Strome/Domi) and rehab him the right way.

I think Pulj would excel on a line with Matty

Matty and Laine are more similar then folks realise. Many don't realise that Laine only has 1 less career goal then Matty.

Doubt if he waives for Ottawa, but I guess you never know.

Also, I'd agree that Ottawa would want more than PM to do a trade. If we get stuck with Marleau's cap, its still a pretty good end result for them. They're a division rival that's not likely going to do us any favours.

I'd definitely take a chance on him too, but given how much Kapanen and Johnsson would be worth on the open market, I'm not sure he is worth them with only a 2nd attached. That would be valuing Puljujarvi more than either of the pieces we gave up, and right now, his value is nowhere near that good.

I might give just Kapanen for that offer, if it's EDM's 2nd this year. Maybe toss in one of the decent Marlies who could push for an NHL job this year like Timashov. That's about as far as I would go.

I think a trade could be made for a package including Puljujarvi, Larsson for Brown, Zaitev and another asset.

Rumours have Buffalo and Jeff Skinner close on a deal at a reported 8 years 9 million per.

No need to hear another word about Matthews, Tavares, Nylander or Marners (potential) deals.

I take any and all of the above over Skinner at 8 years 9 per, who averages roughly 54/55 points per 82 games played.
