You want to clear or cap in one fowl swoop :) I think you need to add a little more to get the Kings to bite. Also not sure whether Leafs would be interested in touching Voynov.

I might do Marleau, Z, AJ or 2nd for Martinez + something depending on how desperate Kings are to move Martinez.

From a pragmatic perspective.... adding Martinez and Voynov would pretty much solve our RHD issues in one trade.

Big time but I cannot see Leafs risking opening a can of worms with Voynov. The Jays dumped Osuna pretty quickly and Leafs did the right thing when Rielly was accused of using the a homophobic slur.

It is sure sounding like the Leafs agree with what many of the posters on this board have been saying for a long time that Marleau and Z need to be moved in order to move forward. I like it.

Can't imagine that the Leafs brass wouldn't have thought of this at some point.

But, would Marleau waive for LA?

And, by tossing in Zaitsev and his contract, are we really adding incentive for LA?

Yeah why would Marleau waive to go to LA ? Is McLelland enough ?? And adding Z means we have to further sweeten. I'd be happy with Kings taking one of them.

Despite what some posters believe, Zaitsev is a positive asset. If we pick up Martinez, they will need a RHD. I don't know of their willingness to move Martinez, if at all... but to get a replacement RHD, on about the same contract, isn't a terrible deal for them at all.

San Jose fans who claim to know the wife say she wants to go back to California. They said that the decision was made this offseason.

Then 2 weeks later this comes out... so I’m not surprised

Zaitsev isn't as bad as some describe, but his contract isn't the greatest. I'm also thinking that L.A. is rebuilding, so not sure Zaitsev is age appropriate given their strategy. Who knows though - might work IF PM is actually willing to waive.

Happy wife, happy life. Listen to your wife Patrick and go west old man :)

If Dubas could pull off Marleau for either Clifford or Trevor Lewis that would be a huge win for the Leafs. Throw in a C level prospect if you wanted to but that is a win for the Leafs

Can they actually be rebuilding though?

Doughty is 29, signed until 2027,
Quick is 33 signed until 2023,
Kopitar is 31, signed until 2024,
Brown and Carter are 34, signed until 2022
Kovalchuk is 36 signed for two more years.
Phaneuf is 34 with two more years.

This isn't one of those situations, where they can dump salaries, and rebuild at all. They can either bring in some bodies, and hope that the team rebounds... or...

Do we know if this was on the Sharks board?

Well, we acquired Muzzin in a trade from them for futures. I guess I was thinking of that. You (LA) have to start somewhere.

Having said that, LA has to be hoping there will be another round of compliance buyouts LOL.

Modify the deal to as follows...

I'm going with Marleau + Zaitsev + 2nd for Martinez + Carter + Voynov +rights.

Leafs LTIR Carter... they can afford the cash hit.

k that's not happening. One, LA isn't giving Martinez away for a 2nd and taking a cap dump in the process even if they feel that Carter is not wanted. And we aren't acquiring Voynov after our owners made it clear how they feel about players that do that kind of stuff (Osuna).

Leafs will probably just target Clifford with Marleau going the other way and paying a premium for dumping Marleau.

I don't think it'll be huge if the Leafs pay his bonus. Personally, a B prospect and a 2ND would be more than enough, and we can afford to ship a 2ND considering we will probably get a couple from Brown and Zaitsev trades.

Full on:
Connor Brown to Edmonton for their 2nd
Nazim Kadri, Nik Zaitsev and Ed.’s 2nd to Winnipeg for Jacob Trouba (6x6.5/7)
Pat Marleau, Andreas Johnsson, Calle Rosen to LA for Eric Martinez and Carl Grunstrom
Re-sign Hainsey for 1 year.

Grunstrom Matthews Marner
Hyman Tavares Kapanen/Bracco
Moore Nylander Bracco/Kapanen
Construct your 4th with what’s left

Rielly Trouba
Muzzin Martinez
Dermott Hainsey
Sandin Liljegren

Flame away :-)

1st trade would be amazing for us but dumb for the Oilers to do, but we've seen worse trades happen in the NHL so I wouldn't be mad with that trade

2nd trade is an overpayment from us imo. Tbh I think Kadri for Trouba straight up is pretty much fair value or at least very close to being fair.

3rd trade idk what to think. Only roster players on the Kings i'd be interested in is probably Clifford or maybe even Walker and I don't think we'd have to give up too much to get one of them. Their prospect pool though, I wouldn't mind a few players from there. Thomas and Phillips being the main 2.

Were it to cost an added late pick to get their 2nd, I’d add it. I think Trouba, a 1st pairing RD IMO, costs more than Kadri and while Zaitsev is contentious RE: value, he can fill a 2nd pairing role while costing less than Trouba, perhaps allowing Winnipeg to re-sign Myers. Maybe the pick is too much, but a Rielly/Trouba pairing, both 25, provides the Leafs a very strong 1st D for a good number of years. The LA deal is a bit of a pipe dream, but if they’ve expressed interest, I’d be happy to let AJ and Rosen go with Marleau as long as Martinez (and hopefully Grundstom) come back. M and M as a 2nd pairing: experienced, solid, handed ness appropriate and expiring contracts in 1 and 2 years giving options to re-sign or move on, perfect fit for allowing Sandin and Liljegren another year to learn and develop under Keefe. Grundstrom offers a bit more sand, Bracco would benefit playing with Tavares and has the ability to set him up, Nylander with Kap and Moore has some talent and defensively responsible players to work with...oh my, I’m about to plan the parade ;-) :-) ;-)

I'd do Marleau, SDA(C+ prospect), and a 2020 3rd for Lewis(center with size and cup pedigree).

Clears up 4.5 million in space. That is enough to add colin Miller, or Anton stralman to the team.

Still try and work a Zaitsev deal and see if you can trade him and a 2019 3rd for someone like Psyk

Rielly-?
Muzzin-Miller/Stralman
Dermott-Psyck

Just need to get a top pairing rhd. We can simply move each RHD we have up a pair and insert lilijgren to third pairing or play Rosen-dermott as the bottom pairing next year.
