What's been interesting about Marleau isn't an awful lot of Torontos media seem to be suggesting that hes moveable this summer.
I assume if that was the case, this is likely to be Marleau's last season before retirement. He goes to a team needing veteran leadership like Arizona that's not a cap team, they save $5M in cash and Marleau plays in the sun.

Just read an article that suggested that we should try to sign Nail Yakupov as the new Tyler Ennis.
Actually, it wouldn’t be a bad idea, imo. The writer said that he would be a great fit for use on the PP. He has a very good one timer, and that is something we could really use.
He’s only 25 yrs. old and has only been out of the NHL for one season. There’s no denying that he has elite skills and perhaps playing with Matthews and getting top PP minutes could reinvent his NHL career?
One of those very low risk/ high reward situations, no? As a bonus, he might be able to be a valuable communicator with the two Russians we just signed recently (if one or both were to crack the line up).
Thoughts?
5. After the Hurricanes were eliminated, a couple of sources indicated there was some in-season frustration from Brett Pesce that might force a trade. Waddell confirmed that was true, but is no longer a concern. From the start of the season through December, Pesce was seventh on the team in ice-time, down 1:31 per night from his 2017-18 average. From New Year’s Day on, he jumped to 21:20, behind only Slavin and Justin Faulk. (His playoff number was 23:06, also third). Crisis averted. Good news for Carolina, he’s a good player. If there is a defenceman who might get moved, it is Haydn Fleury. No longer waiver-eligible, he needs a place to play.
18. Sergei Andronov, a 29-year-old winger who played at KHL CSKA Moscow, informed interested NHL teams on Friday that he will stay in Russia. A 2009 St. Louis draft pick who spent two years in the AHL, Andronov got a better offer overseas. Calgary, Columbus and Toronto were among interested parties.
Is Sam bennet a good option at 3C?
I'm thinking bennet as 3c if kadri goes for trouba?
He didn’t put a rumour out there, he just suggested that Yakupov would be worth going after. I agree, but wasn’t aware that he is under contract for another season in Russia. The writer was James Tanner from Fan Sided. Should not be taken seriously
The Sharks have a lot of things to figure out so I think that would have to wait until after July 1st, but I certainly hope so.Speculation from sharks fans who claim to know the family is that the marleaus want to go back home and will be willing to make that happen.
Well the Sharks would have to want him, which I doubt they do.Speculation from sharks fans who claim to know the family is that the marleaus want to go back home and will be willing to make that happen.

I honestly think media thinks there some sort of out because everyone is shocked the Leafs made such an obviously short sighted signing. Literally everyone knew this was going to happen, and the Leafs still gave Marleau that third year. Just a brutal decision that I think some people are still having a hard time believing.

These are their upcoming UFA's and they have $24M in cap space to work with:
Joe Thornton
Joe Pavelski
Erik Karlsson
Gustav Nyquist
Jonas Donskoi
Timo Meier (RFA)

if Marleau and Zaitev can be moved, and that's a big IF, the Leafs cap problems would be solved. Now to fix the D..............Everyone is moveable.
Its proven time and time again.

Or who knows? Maybe IF the sharks fans are accurate and the marleaus want to go back home that badly.... he might just be willing to go west to a cali team and then get traded to a contender at the deadline.
I mean at the end of the day. For most family comes first. I could see them being upset. Moving a hall of fame career and now everybody dumping on the guy. I could see that being tough on a wife. But who knows how it all will turn out.
If anything sell him to Vancouver with sweetners for spooner.
They buy out marleau for like 3.8 million
We buy out spooner for like 2.6 million.
He goes back to the sharks for the minimum?
If I am not mistake any team acquiring Marleau after July 1st would only be responsible for 1.25 million in salary as that is what is left on Marleau's contract after his bonus is paid July 1. His cap hit on an acquiring teams salary cap would still be 6.25 million but they would only need to pay 1.25 million in actual money. This is what makes Marleau's contract that moveable. At a 1.25 million price tag there are not too many older players that will be available that would still be able to provide what Marleau does and will. He isn't exactly a stiff, he's just not worth 6.25 million. But at 1.25 million, he's a great get for a contending team that has cap space, or even a team that is on the brink of making the playoffs and need some vet leadership.
As for SJ, if Karlsson walks as expected. And Joe Thornton comes back for one more kick at the can for a cup. SJ will have the cap space to take on a Marleau contract. The deal can even be expanded where we take on another salary from SJ while sweetening the pot.

We need a D, they can use some younger wingers. And Marleau gets to play one more season with Thornton on his wing for a run at a cup.
