What’s wrong with people. We don’t need or want spezza. If we need players promote from within. Are we going back to the years where we signed a bunch of old rejects because of their name. Promote the kids at least they will play their ass
off to stay up.
I think it stems from the fact that Gauthier isn't a sexy choice at 4C yet. Brooks and Engvall aren't near ready. Petan doesn't fit the mold of a prototypical 4th line center. So, you look to FA to upgrade on Gauthier. When you look at this list you'll see that there are not many options better than Fred. Spezza and Acciari fit that description and that's about it. So, if cap space is available as well as an upgrade then you make the move. Another idea if Marleau does stay is too use him as the 4th line center if the top-9 positions are occupied.

People who think Jason Spezza can thrive as a 4th line centre have never watched him play.

He would win a lot of faceoffs and score at a much better pace than our current option. While providing a similar level of physicality. He puts an option in place for PP#2. He does fall off in the defensive end and can't contribute to the PK like Fred.

Spezza provides no physicality, Fred can at least forecheck and help with a cycle. Agree that 4th line centre needs upgrading but a old slow softie isn’t a upgrade. Ottawa should give him a year or two but nobody else will.

TOR RD Zaitsev for NJ RD Santini.

Santini doing nothing in NJ... Devils gonna get really good really quick with this draft and their young forwards. Tonnes of cap space. Zaitsev gives them some RD certainty while things develop at a moderate price point. Leafs gets 3M cap space and a place-holder D man.

Adding Acciari in FA and promoting Marchment would add to our non-existing physicality - and on top of it, would be really cheap (guessing Acciari goes for 1-1.2 m$/y).

While I don't mind the suggestion, we're *loaded* up front with players. I think Mikhayev and Korshkov have clauses to go back to Russia/Europe if they aren't on the NHL roster

adding depth to the team is never a bad thing, however I'm not holding out too much hope these KHL guys amount to anything, if they can stick, great if not no great loss.

I am hoping that Korshkov is open to sticking around in the AHL, we cna give him a lot of ice time so he can develop. He wasn't getting as much as he should in the KHL.

LOL.... Welcome to the forum. Don't do trades again.

Na this is the best trade on here you guys act like its NHL 19 and spout out stupid trades that do not make sense for both teams. Hall is making 6 million this year, would give us lots of money to sign Kap AJ. Every trade I see you idiots post its like why would the other team do it. This one makes sense for both teams NJD have the money to sign Marner and it gives Hughes someone to play with. Next year with Hall and Marleus money coming off the books we can sign Hall. And Severson would be huge on our right side. Obviously sign Marner if we can but if its true and he turned down 8 x 9million already than I think we need to move on. I say trade Marner now at his highest value and maximize the return instead of trading Nylander at his lowest value.

No to the pesce trade that is brutal. Cancuks won't take zaitsev lol maybe we will have to give a 3rd rounder with him to get a 7th back, I don't think you sign acciari to play wing. you have depth pieces on min contracts for that.

All of these mock lineups without Mikheyev are wrong. I bet he starts with Matthews or Tavares with Hyman being out and the uncertainty around Johnsson

He would cost more but I’d rather Acciari, who would also want some term I’d imagine and I’m not sure we’re in a position to commit to that. Acciari would be the perfect 4th line C for this team. There isn’t anyone on the Marlies ready to step up down the middle.

Spezza for one year under a million similar to Ennis is low risk. If it doesn’t work, whatever, put him on waivers or make a trade.

Leafs Should Make a Move for Knights' Colin Miller

Can anyone find a downside to a trade for Colin Miller from Vegas?

RHD, bomb of a shot, out of a spot in Vegas, has term, at $3 million a year, a former Soo Greyhound.

Any reason at all???

Makes so much sense it hurts, and immediately improves our defence.

Very much on board for Acciari, but not sure how Boston let's him go, to be honest. He's a perfect fit for them and this won't be his break the bank deal. If he can be had, it is definitely a step in the right direction to strengthen our Bottom 6 with a type of player we just don't have on the Marlies.

I think Boston has a few guys ready to join their club too and need a chance.

Miller is fine if you can put him on a 2nd pairing....he needs a bit of sheltering, he isn't strong defensively despite what the stats say. He got scratched towards the end because he was struggling defensively. The problem as well is Vegas can not take a lot of cap back.

Why is Vegas so keen to give him up again?
