Can Spezza PK and take D-zone draws?
Even if he can't, he's a good pro vet, so he'd be out there

Okay then, sign Spezza if there are not younger, cheaper players available! Spezza would still not be my first choice. We dont have any depth centres other than Petan and the Goat
On a cheap, one year deal he would be an excellent pickup.Jason Spezza would be an interesting player to look at in free agency. He's a 35+ player so you have to be careful on term but...

Marleau scored 48 points and then 46 points back to back before entering FA. Spezza scored 28 points and then 26 points this year. Marleau almost scored as many goals as Spezza did points in those two years. He doesn't have as much leverage, but he could still get a 2 year deal on low money. If they can get him for 1 year and cap space to do it, he is an upgrade on Gauthier.Someone will be dumb enough to offer him a multi year deal. Just like someone offered a multiyear deal to Marleau.
I guess it could happen but I don't expect him to be offered more than a year.Someone will be dumb enough to offer him a multi year deal. Just like someone offered a multiyear deal to Marleau.
If Karlsson re-signs i think Braun should be the leafs top target. He would be a perfect partner for Rielly. Sharks fans are saying a 2nd and a 3rd for him.
I think you can probably trade Marleau, 3rd Rounder to SJ for Baun. SJ will be crunched to resign all their talent and taking Marleau back at a discount knowing what they have in him would be a good get. Also allowing him to retire a Shark.

Someone looking for a vet could offer him considerably more salary.
It would depend on the players motivation, if it's just money he won't be a Leaf.

If I am Dubas I am reaching out to CAR they couldn't score a goal in the BOS series and I don't think the Owner is a patience guy so he might sacrifice his D corps in order to obtain some offense. Kappy, AJ, Nylander anyone of those are on the board for one of their RHD

Here is a look at the teams with more than one first-round pick this year — a sweet bit of currency that could be used to trade for a roster player, exchange for multiple later-round picks, or used to pluck the Pastrnak or Boeser of the 2019 class.
• New York Rangers
• Colorado Avalanche
• Los Angeles Kings
• Buffalo Sabres
• Anaheim Ducks
Shouldn't a fun offseason involve our Leafs celebrating with the Stanley Cup?That Karlsson to Tampa rumor is pretty wild. Going to be a fun offseason
not Hamilton though, please no Dougie Hamilton. If I am Dubas I am reaching out to CAR they couldn't score a goal in the BOS series and I don't think the Owner is a patience guy so he might sacrifice his D corps in order to obtain some offense. I think Johnsson was involved in those discussions as well according to Bob McKenzie. I'm not in love with Pesce, he doesn't have a very high offensive pedigree and he isn't a physical player. I do not mind his contract. They have been linked to Kasperi Kapanen for awhile. I'm sure the interest is still up there. Not sure the Leafs have much interest in that unless it makes perfect sense.
A deal around Pesce for Kapanen (potentially more pieces involved) could still be in the works.

I agree, however, others here are promoting the idea. We have Marleau, that is enough vet presence IMHO.Do not consider Spezza at any cost! Classic bad signing by previous regimes bring in the hometown boy long after they have anything left. Slow, career long history of questionable decision making. Could maybe be useful as second pp and good at face offs but that’s it. Can’t move well enough to pk in today’s game. Terrible idea

Hopefully, Marleau accepts a trade to another team and retires. Ottawa needs to reach the cap floor. Maybe they take on Marleau's cap hit for 1 year and also signs Spezza. Dubas then hires Marleau in some capacity related to player development.
