just a reminder. The last time we traded off a struggling sweed after one bad year

Lee Stempniak for defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo and forward Alex Steen we got a couple years out of Lee the blues got a few out of of carlo and a decade plus of a high end sometimes elite Alex.

If Muzzin is extended, Dermott could end up on the block at some point. Maybe in two, or three years. This assumption is based upon picking up a guy who can legitimately play with Reilly, and Liljegren being ready for 2020, and one of the other RHD also looking to progress to the NHL. Dermott is just ok to me on the right side, and I think Reilly, Muzzin and Sandin will be better left side options. Oh, Zaitsev gone in the assumption too. If Z stays, and Liljegren makes a push, it's possible Dermott moves sooner, if the return helps the team overall.
Yeah, something could give on the left side for sure.
Hard to say how it’ll play out....but Reilly is the rock, Sandin the up-and-comer.
Just as tough imagining Muzzin getting extended here as it is imagining the team without him. It’s not an easy call.
Rosen’s ready.
Dermott. I agree, keep guys on their strong side.
Some reports have Kivihalme ‘plug and play’ ready.
Could go lots of ways.

Dermott is not a LD, only Babs thinks he is.
He grew up playing on the right side as a left shot D. In junior, in the AHL. The most left side he has ever played is under and because of Babs.

If Babs stops being so stupidly stubborn, he could be a solid cheap complimentary RD for next year.

That is what we were doing in the playoffs and later end of the season so i dont see why it would change for next year...Especially given that Rosen will likely be our 3rd pair LD.

Dermott will be used on right side this coming season. As we saw in the playoffs and as some have mentioned of his past playing side. He has the experience and will be a younger version of Hainsey manning the right side as a LHD.

Jason Spezza would be an interesting player to look at in free agency. He's a 35+ player so you have to be careful on term but...

I wouldn't touch this guy with a 1000 foot pole. Hes done. Only place I can see putting him is as your 3rd line center. But even that I would prefer to have Kadri at what he makes then paying Spezza 2.5-3 million for next season. Money is better spent elsewhere.

He wouldn't replace any one per say, just give us depth. With Hyman out until November ish and with a bunch of young players filling the ranks, it might be good to get a veteran that can put up 30 ish points and even be a PP specialist.

He would be an upgrade on Gauthier as a 4th line center. He would be a big upgrade there. You can also move Kadri to the wing if everyone is healthy and play Spezza as the center on that line if he plays well. Either way, it's about options.

Of course it would be all dependent on the money and I wouldn't go more than a 1 year contract.

I have a feeling we might see 5-7 rookies on our roster at any given point next year. Having a couple of injuries already will open up some jobs in training camp.

I'd offer 1 x 1.5

Move Kadri to Tavares wing with Marner. All three have all played together before with success. Move Hyman back to Matthews wing with Nylander.

Then bring in Spezza as your 3rd line center. 1x1.5m.

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Kadri-Tavares-Marner
Johnsson-Spezza-Kapanen
Moore-Engvall-Michyelvic

Then obviously fix your defense which is a story of its own.

Kadri is a center. No way he moves to the wing just to have Spezza to replace him. Use Marleau.

Here is one for you, how about Brock Nelson LW UFA from the Islanders. Why wouldn't we target this guy to put on Tavares-Marner wing. Size, Skill and speed has played with Tavares in the past and gives us flexibility to move Hyman back to Matthews-Nylander line to give us 2 Babcock type lines. If we can somehow get rid of Marleau I would be all over this guy.

6 foot 3, 212 pounds throws the body and goes into corners like Hyman but better. By ridding yourself of Marleau's contract you can get this guy and open up the possibility of trading a Johnsson if he asks for too much to acquire a dman. If Johnsson takes a reasonable number then deal Kapanen for Pesce.

Trade Marleau
Sign Nelson to a 5yr-22million deal
Trade Kapanen+ for Pesce
Trade Brown for picks
Trade Zaitsev for picks/propects
Resign Hainsey 1yr -2m

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Nelson-Tavares-Marner
Johnsson-Kadri-Mikheylic (Sp)
Engvall-Gauthier-Moore

Reilly-Pesce
Muzzin-Dermott
Rosen-Hainsey

That's an easy no thank you from me! I guess we have failed to learn from the ongoing Marleau debackle.

It would be a one year deal, so the 35+ rule means nothing.
We have young prospects that can fill in holes in the lineup. We don't need to bring in soon to be retired players to fill out the lineup. Our Leafs of old did this and it failed. JMHO.

Love the Marner contract, I think it will be closer than the Marner lovers will believe. 9-9.516 on a 7/8 year deal. AJ deal might be a 2 year deal at that AAV, but still works.

Stralman and Spezza are both solid adds as long as we believe they are healthy.

- Spezza's skating has decreased a bit, but he is a +CF and +CFRel guy who has had some solid faceoff% for the last few years. IF and its a big IF he is willing to do 1x1.5 id do it in a second. Decent playoffs as well

-Stralman is weird. Coming off an injury (30ish games missed) and having a few years in a row with bad CF Rel after beasting before that (negative last 3 years, super strong the 4 before). Same with Fenwick.

Like the idea about getting something for Brown that isnt a bad contract d man back. (Looking at you anyone who is suggesting Benning)

Love the idea of going after a Mayfield type. Long term low cap low risk #4 who might be able to develop into a solid #3. Kapanen will be hard to replace speed and PK wise, but not impossible.

I think we will end up seeing Zaitsev moved with a + to a team like Vancouver for a guy like Troy Stecher.
Younger, better numbers, shorter contract. Was scratched earlier in the year but ended it on a stronger note. Could see Reilly-Stecher being an interesting top pair.

Zaitsev + Holl + pick ($5.175) for Spooner +Stecher ($5.425m)
Place Spooner in for Petan (Petan gone, Babs doesnt like him and I dont think he works for us long term) and we end up saving 525k. See if he can rebound back to being the 48 point pace guy he was between 2015-2018. Can also play C if need be.

We dont have any depth centres other than Petan and the Goat
