Nylander for Ekblad is a real solid trade idea. I think the Leafs may have to add something small to even it up. I could see the appeal in moving on from Ekblad as he has yet to become what he was touted to be. Still young enough to do it though.

The Oilers spring to mind as a fit

We've got offensive drivers on the backend, some defensive specialists to insulate them would be nice from a team building POV

Teams don't usually sell those kinds of players for cheap. He's the odd man out for a reason.

Not that I wouldnt take a chance on him, but I wouldn't pay considerably for him either.

If Zaitsev does have slight positive value what do you think he could land in a 1 for 1 type trade? If he could land a cheap power winger like a N.Ritchie type that could be intersting.

Brown or at the very least AJ can land Ritchie 1 for 1.
Zai is a solid top 4, the term of his contract might not be ideal but he is not a bad player on a bad contract. He is a solid player on an okay contract.

Include Brown in above deal if it helps seal the deal otherwise maximize a trade moving Brown out for a pick or prospect.

I would love to know who the rumoured big D was that the Leafs were chasing at the deadline. Leafs need to replace Gauthier while adding some sandpaper in that spot. Sparks is obvious.

I don't think AJ is the guy that you want to trade. I'd rather move a number of other guys, Kapanen for sure, maybe others.

AJ was 47th in the league in P/60 Even Strength, and fourth on the team in that department, behind Marner, Matthews, and Tavares.

I think both Kap and AJ can explode to become top line compliment player. AJ is probably a better overall player while Kap got the speed to light up the league.

AJ shot 16% or something crazy this year and there's no way he sustains that going forward.

Kapanen is almost 4 years younger and much more likely to keep his production up going forward

The best return I expect is a 3rd/4th line center/winger who could help on the PK. Luke Glendening, Brandon Suter, Brad Richardson, etc.

He was Calgary’s #2 defenseman all season and in the playoffs. He is probably replaced in that role by Hanafin to start next season though.
