GDT: Free Agency 2019

So instead of asking us what we want and then saying it’s a non starter, what ideas do you or your fanbase have in mind that fits what we’re trying to build here.

I fear there is and the cost might be a guy like ADA. Or maybe Buch. Honestly don’t know who I prefer we keep with all things considered at this point.

I don’t think CK nets us a better center prospect than some of the guys we currently have.

****ing Sakic... Would have killed to have Newhook in our pipeline..

Fair enough, it could be ok value for both teams. I just dont see DW giving up that piece in this type of deal. I think a first +b prospect would be more likely
 
The Rangers are in an interesting spot because I sincerely think the return for Buchnevich, who would presumably be extended shortly after a team would acquire him, would be better than Kreider at this point.

Do you move Kreider for the Hayes return, or do you cash in on Buchnevich and possibly add more to acquire a similar-aged, cost-controlled center?

With the Fox addition, Buch + Deangelo is an intriguing package to start for another team. I'm not a huge advocate of trading Deangelo, but if Nils is the real deal, he may be ready next season.

The Rangers could also theoretically create cap room by attaching a draft pick to Brendan Smith and taking back less salary in return.

We don’t a choice, he has to be moved at this point. He knows it. We know it. It’s kind of sad because he’s been a good Ranger for us but at this point we can’t ice a time with him on it because of the cap.

When Gorton was saying he’s had talks with CK’s camp I wonder if it’s a sign/trade. He said they’ll continue having talks.

With all of the top UFA’s signed, CK can ask for the moon and possibly get it. There are some desperate teams out there and I think Gorton will get very good value for him.

Stars who had an ok day
Avs? I think Sakic is like Yzerman and won’t trade anything of significant value
Nashville? That cap is tight
Wild?
Blues? His style could fit
Flyers? AV would want him

I can’t think off too many teams
 
There's some thought that Buchnevich might be moved but I found it interesting how JD mentioned Buchnevich specifically when talking about players that would benefit from learning from Panarin. Seems like Buchnevich is definitely in this team's plans though if the right offer comes they may move him regardless.

They won't move him and and I'm not suggesting they will but a guy like Glass out of Vegas would be exactly what I'm talking about. If we could bring a player with that kind of pedigree I wouldn't mind moving players like that. Again, Vegas ain't moving Glass, but thats what I think the Rangers need to do.

its a great idea but good luck finding a guy like that that is available.

Edmonton for sure. Florida missed out on Panarin so I think there could be something there. Buffalo missed out on Zucc so thats another possibility.

I think we need to see if we can fill the 2C position internally. We have some candidates. Strome/Names as placeholders until they’re moved.

Chytil, Howden, Andersson, and I think both Kravtsov+Kakko get some looks there.

Gorton has the luxury of time right now. He needs to play his hand right now and see what he has, although adding another Center prospect has to be on top of his list.
 
I know it's xenophobic but I'd still love to get a few more Canadians on this team in prominent roles. It would be nice if Howden could be one of those guys but a few others wouldn't hurt.
