GDT: Free Agency 2019

Eh. Staal isn't going anywhere, Skjei is the default #1, Rykov and Hajek will be duking it out for the 3rd spot. Wouldn't say they need one on the left side at the moment so much as they need some rookies to step up and Staal to step into the background

Vesey Has 90 points in 3 seasons. DeAngelo has 52. Vesey has 50, DeAngelo has 9 goals. They basically have identical plus minues and vesey played a lot more minutes. Vesey wasn't a problem child in his first 2 years and showed he can continue to score 30 points a season. DeAngelo has maturity issues, didnt show growth in his game until this past season, but was still benched and did not suit up bc of it. You have to take that all into account when giving out a deal.
 
I can’t get over how dumb Montreal’s offer sheet was. In trying to not give up other firsts they just gave Aho a very fair deal that Waddell will of course match. He might’ve even gotten more in negotiations with the Canes.

Maybe they thought the crazy signing bonuses would be too much for Dundon? I think they mistook Dundon not wanting to spend to the cap for him not having the money. Dude just lit 75 million dollars on fire essentially with that football league just to gain whatever proprietary technology he was after. Dude has the money. And if there’s one player they were going to match for a non 4 first rounder offer sheet it wasn’t going to be Aho.

Just seems like Bergevin did Waddell a favor. Doesn’t actually have to go through negotiations.

I mean eventually. We could have that guy. But the defense is far from complete.
 
Everyone else is dumping bad contracts cant we get in on that? Maybe Toronto wants to trade Ceci and a 3rd for Smith with half retained and then we just let Ceci expire. We need to move on from Shattenkirk and Smith without buyouts

Sure but unless another Trouba that plays the left side becomes available, I wouldn't go out there spending assets looking for one so much as wait for some guys to develop. Next season isn't going to be about making a cup run...yet

Also, I think while the Canes are saying all this "that's great, I don't have to do any work! happy to match!" stuff, I think it's obvious that Aho wasn't able to get that contract out of Carolina and so it's not one that they really wanted to give. They're fine with matching, but given the chance I think they would have liked something structured differently.
Aho is ultimately the winner in that he got a contract he wanted despite his original team not wanting to give it to him

I think Buch could build massive value before we move him.

Playing with a combo of Kakko/Panarin and Zibs... his point total could skyrocket
