The funny thing is this is likely a good thing for MTL because pretty much any remaining UFA contract is going to be a bad one. Like the rumored 8-9M for Lee? He's way better if he's handicapped and can't make the offer.

However he's got plenty of room to add Kreider and Namestnikov!
Kreider seems like a great fit for them.

Hi popping in to ask a quick question regarding your situation.

With ~ 8.7M in cap space how are you expecting the Trouba, Buchnevich, and Lemieux contracts to unfold.

With Kravstov and Kakko likely coming in this year I would assume something has to give in your forward core or am I missing something?

Kreider is definitely gone. Likely going to a team that strikes out with UFAs. If we can strike a deal for one of our defensemen, that's another option.

The speculation is that Kreider will be moved. Maybe Namestnikov. Brendan Smith to the AHL.

People also want to move Shattenkirk, but IDK if that's realistic.

You literally started this entire thing with the statement “when was the last time we signed a 27yo first line player”

And only time will tell whether Panarin was a good signing. You can beat that drum until you are blue in the face, but you don’t know it was a good signing. Just like I don’t now it was a bad signing.

Of course no one knows how it will turn out, but it makes the Rangers a slight favorite to make the playoffs. A month ago, that was an absurd thought.

I’m sure Anders Lee is just foaming at the mouth to go back to the Islanders after they told him to get lost for their pursuit of Panarin

Some cap will have to be moving out. Likely Kreider. Maybe a retained salary trade or buy-out for one of Smith/Shattenkirk.

Kreider is done here. Sad to say that *looks at avatar*

Names has to be on the outs too. Smith can be buried, and so can Beleskey. Opens up ~1.8 million. I'd say Strome, but I think he has less value that Namestnikov.

Maybe we get shocked and Shattenkirk is moved after the RHD market clears up.

True, it also may cause us to make hard decisions with our own drafted players ins 3-4 years. There’s always a flip side.
