Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

Last year, Bill Armstrong literally begged Drury to trade him Zac Jones. A Coyotes scout told me half of the teams in the league wanted Jones. The next two weeks are his final audition for a full time job with the Rangers or another team. So far so good.
So what changed? Wasn't Jones told he could work out his own trade? Surely one if these teams could have offered Drury something half decent

Rangers need to use their considerable deadline space to launder, er, retain some money for some of these Stanley Cup dreamers that have no space going into the deadline.

I'd like to see Jones stay here, honestly. He's not going to bring back much that's worthwhile and he won't cost a lot.

Your definition of something decent and Drury’s are probably very different.
100% but this is a guy who couldn't get in the lineup for love nor money. What could Drury really have expected, and if half the teams coveted Jones how did noone come close?
All.seems very weird, especially when a lot of this board is convinced Drury settles for lesser pieces on a lot of trades. Strange days....

Vince saying the rangers are motivated to trade Kreider

This isn't news, honestly, since Drury declared it with a bull horn in November.

He's a tough sell at this point. Hurt, underperforming, locker room chaos/lack of effort (a team thing, not calling him out alone on this), etc...

If they could've traded him in November, that woud've been A LOT better.

We're already retaining on Lindgren. There's a good chance we will retain on Smith. I think Drury will want to keep that lost spot open in the event he trades Kreider.

Yeah, like I said above, I think Kreider is a tough sell at this point. I don't see Drury getting much for him as crazy as that is. But, yeah, keep that option open.

Jones being a decent to good player and the Rangers still being like “nah we’re good” will always be hilarious
It's very weird. We think he's good (not always a great indication!), half the league thinks he's good, but the Rangers won't play him unless they have no choice, and they won't trade him

Isn’t that Parsinnen? I don’t know if another C is a priority if they view Parsinnen as a long term 3C.
Depends on the center that's available. Parsinnen might be good. He wasn't bad in his first 2. No mistakes and played hard, but didn't really do much. But the distance between him and someone like McLeod is like the distance between me and Parsinnen. Haha

There were reports earlier in the year that his agent was given permission to seek a trade for Jones, but nothing came of it. I don’t know if that means there was no interest or nobody was willing to pay Drury’s price.

If I had my way, Jones would have been stapled to the third pairing and second PP unit from the start. At least then we would have a clearer idea of who he is as a player and what kind of growth he’s capable of.

1. Trade Smith and Domingues before D day
2. Weaponize last retain slot for a 3rd or center prospect
3. Trade Krieder for 1st and young D
4. Keep Jones unless blown away
5. Don’t do anything stoopid Drury
