Rangers still feel they are in it for Panarin. Meaning they are holding tight to their ask and they know Panarin is using the Isles to try and drive up the price.

If you are buying a car that you have your eyes set on sooner or later you wind up caving to the dealership demands. He wants NY.

Obviously 11-11.5 is a ton of money but its what the Rangers said they wouldnt budge off all along. If you support Panarin coming here or not, If Gorts pulls this off you gotta give him major cred.

If they leak the number they say they arent moving off of and land the best UFA on the market on their terms, Gorton instantly becomes one of if not the best GM in the league, especially considering what he's done over the past 14 months or so.

And that sets a precedent for all of the other deals to come.
Even if we “win” this game of chicken, we lose

Kind of feels like when Beltran signed with the Mets and kept circling back to the Yankees, but they wouldn't budge. Wonder how flexible Rangers will be here?

I can't find the post, but...

And these are all the more reasons to play hardball. If you want Manhattan, first class everything, and a team who isn't bouncing between crap arenas for several more years, then you take our offer. Otherwise enjoy riding the LIRR to home games.

The Rangers need to start acting like a ****ing destination and not a desperate socialite looking for attention with their checkbook. You want to be a Ranger? Great. Show us."

Applause!!
I agree wholeheartedly!

It's all up to Panarin and where he wants to play. We'll find out soon enough. This suspence is killing me. LOL

I believe the Rangers feel like Andersson, Chytil and Howden should be able to make a step forward and help facilitate not signing or trading for another high end center

If that were the case, I don't think Gorton would have been trying to get back into the mid-1st/top 10 to get a center. They may be viewing Chytil as a winger and the other 2 as middle 6.

HE isn't an albatross but his contract certainly is, even more so when you add up Staal, Shatty and I can't think of who else. Smith's is movable to AHL.

Meh, this is a rebuilding team with cap space. His cap hit doesn't mean all that much. Hopefully with Trouba, possibly Fox, Rykov, Lindgren, etc..., we're better defensively this year.

What time do you guys think Panarin will make his decision? You think it will be close to noon, or tonight, or later?

Uncle Larry: Sounds like $12m per is magic # for Panarin. Trouba is going to come in at close to $8m. NYR have about $18.4 of space and don’t have Buchnevich, Lemieux, DeAngelo signed yet. Cap space presumes Smith in AHL.

Presumably Kreider and Namestnikov would be dealt, freeing up $8+ million.

We literally signed the Hank deal knowing we'd hate it at the end of the deal.

Yep that's the way these contracts usually work. You sign long-term to get the benefit at the front and make your run, and you suck it up at the end (or buy it out, trade it, etc.).

We got a lot of mileage out of Hank, and had a few runs at the Cup. It's a big cap hit now but our other two goalies will be pretty cheap until one gets the next starter contract anyway.

I am very curious at where the feeling the narrative began that we, the anti-Panarin crowd, said that the Rangers have no interest in him or will not check in and see what can be done. I do not recall ever stating that. Nor do I recall anyone else ever stating that. Our views on Panarin are one thing, but we have been pretty realistic as far as what our take on what Gorton and JD would check in on.
Let me give you a fork to fluff that up some more ;)

No because we’re not close enough to the cup. We will need those first rounders to continue the flow of good, cost controlled players on their ELC’s.

Explaining first round picks to Ranger fans is like explaining how to use electricity to remote tribes.

It's not their fault really. They've never experienced the advantages other teams have. To them, they are still in the 20th century partying at the 94 parade.

Many others are simply too dead to see the draft we just had.
