Can we put a decent team in front of this guy again before we call him an albatross? Jesus. The last two years, especially last year, Hasek would've been an "albatross". Our team sucked.

Our D featured Pionk as a ONE.
He wasn't very good in the world championships this year, dare I say.

I dunno...I recall a 3rd liner absolutely torching us in the playoffs this one year to stop us from winning the Stanley cup.

I also recall the rangers esentially being carried by their 3rd and 4th lines to that Stanley cup ..

So yeah..I'd say every dollar counts
"Who cares about 1.5 million for an elite player" doesn't imply that having a good 4th line and good depth should be ignored.

Colorado, Florida, Columbus.

All teams that could have interest in Kreider. I would say even Namestnikov could be of interest to those teams. A top 9 forward that can PK. One year left on his deal.

Honestly, if Panarin wasn't staying in CBJ for a $100M check, I don't think he's going to want to play on LI either. NYR are the most attractive destination left on the board. I'm sure they're offering a "fair" contract, just not the one with the most total dollars. They'll use contract structure and up-front dollars to their benefit to help bridge some of the gap between their offer and other teams. Panarin's agent is doing the smart thing and trying to milk as much as he can. In fact, I bet the Panarin has already made his decision. His agent needs to be careful, though. Teams can and will move on to other options and the money will evaporate.

And these are all the more reasons to play hardball. If you want Manhattan, first class everything, and a team who isn't bouncing between crap arenas for several more years, then you take our offer. Otherwise enjoy riding the LIRR to home games.

The Rangers need to start acting like a f***ing destination and not a desperate socialite looking for attention with their checkbook. You want to be a Ranger? Great. Show us.

What a roller coaster this has been . Went from being sure he wants to be a Ranger, to being sure he would just take the highest paycheck, now back to being sure he wants to be a Ranger

Never said they don't have any interest or that they wouldn't.
I am very curious at where the feeling the narrative began that we, the anti-Panarin crowd, said that the Rangers have no interest in him or will not check in and see what can be done. I do not recall ever stating that. Nor do I recall anyone else ever stating that. Our views on Panarin are one thing, but we have been pretty realistic as far as what our take on what Gorton and JD would check in on.

Look at every single long term contracts we've given out since..hell.... 1990.

Is there a single one where the player finished his career here and we didn't absolutely hate the contract the final few years? Even Henrik .. and sure fire first ballot hall of famer, one of the greatest players of our generation .. is looking like an albatross

Henrik

Frikkin

Lundqvist
We literally signed the Hank deal knowing we'd hate it at the end of the deal.

We gave long term contracts to bad players where they were bad deals the day they were signed. Staal, Girardi, Drury etc. come to mind.

I don't care what he does while vacationing in the summer in a fluff tournament. Not saying he's contending for a Vezina, but the guy still has plenty to offer a young team.

He's certainly not an albatross (a psychological burden that feels like a curse). Come on.

I get the sense they are.
