Honestly, if Panarin wasn't staying in CBJ for a $100M check, I don't think he's going to want to play on LI either. NYR are the most attractive destination left on the board. I'm sure they're offering a "fair" contract, just not the one with the most total dollars. They'll use contract structure and up-front dollars to their benefit to help bridge some of the gap between their offer and other teams. Panarin's agent is doing the smart thing and trying to milk as much as he can. In fact, I bet the Panarin has already made his decision. His agent needs to be careful, though. Teams can and will move on to other options and the money will evaporate.
