I'm officially on the max front loaded offersheet Aho for 5 years train. The last time the Rangers traded 4 first round picks in a row they made the Cup finals the first year of having no first rounder. Make it happen Joffrey Croutons

Why exactly are the Rangers accumulating all of the assets they have...just to play prospect build-a-roster? I’m not seeing a problem giving up assets to fill a premium position with a premium player? If the cost to get the actual player the Rangers need, i.e., a high end center is Chytil or Buch, Andersson or Howden and Skjei or Hajek, I’m not seeing a problem giving up those assets.

I agree and I've been saying this for a while.

The Rangers ARE going to make a 3/4 for 1 type trade.

Getting Panarin doesn't change that dynamic, just the target

hold the line

its gonna be 12 x 6

he gets his 12 and we get the shorter term

will he move off 8 yrs ?

if he wants to play here, he will move. otherwise, its the piles.

if he says no, back to the original plan and build from within.

I feel like you and I are the only ones who actually care about this.

It's as if we're talking about 2013 and on the cusp of competing.

Think about how different staal looks of his contract is over this year and he makes a 1.5mil less
Staal at 4ish mil and an ufa after this year means you can probably trade him at 50% retained for a 3rd roubder or something and get him outta here... And not really be too worried about it.

Right now he's this huge giant albatross.

1 year.
1.5mil
This kinda leaves out a key aspect that Staal is the worst defenseman on the team though, does it not? If he was still a strong top 4 D the contract is much less of an issue.

As will any player else who equals or surpasses Panarin at time of their extension, whether RFA or not.

Toronto has changed things concerning high end RFAs coming off their entry levels.
I’d be so happy to have that problem. The kids matching or exceeding panarin’s production.

I pray that happens and will deal with it when they come. Guys make it out like there are only 6 guys on the team and the rest are untradeable and unmovable so that if guys do play themselves into big contracts we’ll lose them automatically, bc 3 years out, they are scared it’s gonna be a Toronto cap situation.

f*** the fear

You'd really lose sleep over not being able to sign an overpaid 4th liner or bottom pair D because of a few extra Panarin dollars?

The best teams in the league fill those holes with cheap and cost controlled talent. Is that not exactly what the Rangers are set up to do?
I dunno...I recall a 3rd liner absolutely torching us in the playoffs this one year to stop us from winning the Stanley cup.

I also recall the rangers esentially being carried by their 3rd and 4th lines to that Stanley cup ..

So yeah..I'd say every dollar counts

Who the hell is John Shannon and why does anyone think he has any info on the incredibly tight lipped current Ranger braintrust

No faith.
People say he is close to JD.

He trying to squeeze Gorts. If he stays firm at 11.5 thats a good deal. If Panarin says ill sign at 11.75 for 7 he gets an extra 1.75 m over the course of the deal - You pull the trigger

bc that is 3million over your preferred offer and not 1.5 million.

Just come out and say and leave it as I don’t want to risk signing a guy to that big of a contract. Just say that and leave it as that instead of spending so much energy thinking of arguments and reasoning instead of just being blunt about it

that is a huge difference between being willing to go as high as $12 mil and saying 'another 1.5 mil doesn't matter' which was the comment being made. if 'another 1.5 mil' is meaningless than its meaningless no matter what figure you are adding it to. 'its just another year' or 'its just another mil' is how you end up with a disaster of a contract. I don't care if you think panarin is worth $10 mil or $12 mil, whatever value JG determines he is worth there needs to be a limit and a point that you'd walk away
