The fact that they are hanging around makes me believe Panarin wants to play for the Rangers and Gorton isn't budging on his offer

I've wondered if the real thing about Dreger talking about 8 years was that the Rangers were the team looking at the sign & trade to be able to offer the extra year at the dollar amount they want.

Maybe that's been shown to be wrong over the last few hours, but I have too much going on to keep up with the blow-by-blow today.

How would you guys rank these guys:

Nash in 2012
Gaborik in 2010
Panarin in 2019?
Panarin
Gaborik
Nash

Just look at where their numbers were trending. Panarin's are trending up. Gaborik was playing well when he wasn't injured, so his numbers were inconsistent. Nash's were clearly trending down.

Panarin is on a different tier. He's a healthy, elite player. I still don't think we should sign him, but he's fundamentally different than the other two. I won't be upset if we sign him, though. I just think staying the course is more likely to generate success long-term.

Think about how different staal looks of his contract is over this year and he makes a 1.5mil less
Staal at 4ish mil and an ufa after this year means you can probably trade him at 50% retained for a 3rd roubder or something and get him outta here... And not really be too worried about it.

Right now he's this huge giant albatross.

1 year.
1.5mil

When was the last 27 year old 75-85point player available for nothing but cash

Why exactly are the Rangers accumulating all of the assets they have...just to play prospect build-a-roster? I’m not seeing a problem giving up assets to fill a premium position with a premium player? If the cost to get the actual player the Rangers need, i.e., a high end center is Chytil or Buch, Andersson or Howden and Skjei or Hajek, I’m not seeing a problem giving up those assets.

It's not 1 to 1.5m..its 7 to 10.5m over the contract...that's a lot of money when you're a team Hoping to be stacked from top to bottom. Every year you have to have 1 inferior player at another lower level position because you overpaid panarin is a year you could be missing out on a cup. I don't want panarin but I'd understand signing him at 5x10 anything more in term or dollars doesn't make sense to me
You'd really lose sleep over not being able to sign an overpaid 4th liner or bottom pair D because of a few extra Panarin dollars?

The best teams in the league fill those holes with cheap and cost controlled talent. Is that not exactly what the Rangers are set up to do?

I want nothing to do w Panarin, regardless of value / term.

To people saying "it's only 0.5 to 1.5 more than our line, or what's an additional year, could you imagine if Shattenkirk signed for 6x7.5?

Who the hell is John Shannon and why does anyone think he has any info on the incredibly tight lipped current Ranger braintrust

No faith.

?
The Rangers once hired Brian Trottier as their coach, I'm not sure they really care what team he was coming from.

and cough...

Traded for Phil Esposito while they were main rivals

Signed Gomez

Signed Holik

I'm surprised they never hired Al Arbour [RIP] a few years ago to pilot those fan cam zeppelin drones.

You're simplifying it down to this when that isn't the only area where an extra $1.5 million could be helpful.
