Shots Against, High Danger Chances against, Goals Against....it really doesnt matter how you try to calculate D, the Leafs are in the top ten for fewest against in the league since Keefe was hired which was a huge turnaround from the Babcock day where they were a mainstay in the bottom ten.

Ill even throw up the top 10 teams for fewest Goals Against since Keefe was hired:

1. Bruins
2. Avs
3. Knights
4. Islanders
5. Lightning
6. Hurricanes
7. Stars
8. Jets
9. Blues
10. Leafs

Some of these teams are more goaltending than defense and some vice versa. The Leafs would fall in the second category as the only weak spot on the team really is team save% (19th in the league since Keefe was hired). The reason the Leafs are into the top ten for goals against and yet 19th in save% is due to the fact their good defensive play under Keefe is doing enough to keep goals down despite the erratic play of the goaltending during his tenure (103 games).

Here are how the goalies that have spent any meaningful time with the Leafs have done under him:

Andersen:
GP:59
save %: .903
GAA: 2.93

Campbell:
GP:33
save %: .919
GAA: 2.25

Hutchinson:
GP:19
save %: .901
GAA: 2.95

I know Andersen was hobbled by injuries but the fact he was greatly outclassed by Campbell and virtually on par with Hutch is certainly going to get management's attention right? What would you have done looking at these very not advanced numbers?
Calculations? Are you messing with me? This is an art, not a science. You’re in the wrong class with the wrong textbook.

I asked you before how many times your stats have to crash and burn before you realize they’re worthless? Pro tip: Public sites are snake oil and you’re buying.

Depends on what team they are representing at the time of the vote. Last year Freddy would’ve been considered worse on this board, this year he is considered better.
Depends who you ask. Mrazek has never been better than Anderson but played in a far more favourable situation so his numbers (and the two-speeds who read them) were misleading.

Unfortunately there’s a lot of people who just don’t know how to evaluate goaltending.

Mrazek's problem is he is the most inconsistent goaltender in the NHL. He can go weeks with incredible play. Then a month of complete garbage where he spends more time 20 feet out of his net than in the crease and has zero mechanics to lean on.

Freddie looks a lot better this year. Some goalies just look better in a more structured environment. I don’t think you’ll find a better team than Carolina this year in terms of playing their system.

There are several leaf fans that still believe their "advanced" stats are the be all end all.

How many times do they need to be wrong before they stop abusing stats they don't even understand?

The proper answer is Andersen WAS the better goaltending while Mrazek currently IS the better goaltender.

Mrazek has had his ups and downs with injuries but still had an overall decent bounce back last year posting:

W: 6
L: 2
Ties: 3

GP: 12
Shots Against/60: 26.65
High Danger Shots Against/60: 9.48
xGA/60: 2.59

GAA: 2.06
High Danger save%: .830
Overall Save%: .923

Really good numbers but only 12 starts so theres an issue with sample size here to go along with the injury risk to the signing for the Leafs.

Andersen meanwhile is coming off probably the worst season of his career (and they kept throwing him out there to try and get him going). His stats were:

W: 13
L: 8
Ties: 0

GP: 24
Shots Against/60: 28.27
High Danger Shots Against/60: 7.69
xGA/60: 2.31

GAA: 2.96
High Danger save%: .780
Overall Save%: .895

Double the starts of Mrazek but really awful numbers all year despite being behind a tighter D makes the Andersen (who has his own injury issues) signing an even bigger gamble by the Canes IMO. Maybe the change of scenery will do him good though who knows?

Yeah this is all dead wrong.

Freddie is way better.

You probably want that hour of your life back making this post huh?

Once again, I love how people chirp the Leafs for regular season performance not mattering, but then roast them when known regular season players perform. Not only has Freddy historically with the Leafs have crazy hot stretches like this.. basically always, he clearly was not the solution in games that mattered.

Wait until mid November first. His sv% will tank because he is going to go through a down swing of sub .900 goaltending like he always does. Then get hot for a few weeks in the new year, and then be inconsistent ending the year in that .915-.920 area like he always does.

And in the playoffs, will be hot and gold game to game. And awful in elimination games.

Sour grapes because he’s an Ex Leaf, nothing more to see here.

Nah, when Leaf fans made threads about his stretches like this, we got "He's not even a top 10 goalie" or "Let's see him in the playoffs". He has had these exact stretches of play before. But we'll just ignore all of that and laugh at the Leafs because that's what we enjoy doing.

Nobody in the history of man kind is as persecuted as the Leafs fan hey?

I’m honestly surprised that the poll is this close.
Andersen is playing great. There is no way that Mrazek even if healthy would be playing close to that level.

I mean we are literally one year removed from everyone saying the single reason the Canes were not a legitimate contender was because of a goalie situation that had Mrazek 1a. But you all go on with your pity party.

No “non leaf” fan is calling him a top 10 goalie in here though. You’re comparing apples and oranges with your analogy. Yes when he was touted as a vezina caliber goalie by some leaf fans there was push back. Rightfully so. Now the comparison isn’t if he’s vezina quality, it’s just comparing him to Mrazek. Big difference.

Welp we did sign his contract knowing this so… Jack it is tonight

Freddy Andersen is top 5 in GAA and Save% and #1 in wins thus far this year. He will likely get a Vezina nomination this year and he may even win it.

I always said he was a top 10 goalie in the NHL when he was healthy. Obviously he looks healthy this year.

This one was never close.
