What, these moves make me feel better about Grier. He knows it's a battle to tank and nothing of the old teams matter. Their future is far away

It’s easy to shit on GMs of cellar dwelling teams. How many teams have just been treading water for years without going either up or down the standings? Those are the ones I’d target as having GMs without a real plan, or at least without an ability to execute.

I'm surprised some people are hating on Grier for this trade. He was able to move an awful contract early that would probably just look worse with time if he stayed in SJS and got a 1st back. The retaining doesnt mean much for them, it will be at minimum 4 more years before they start to sniff the playoff. By that time theres only 2 years left and who knows what the cap is at. Unfortunate having retention on both Karlsson on Hertl but the previous gm had given out some of the worst contracts out there.

He also currently has landed the 11th overall pick in this years draft for Karlsson (subject to change).

Massive Sharks fan here.

Grier absolutely murdered this trade deadline and I am proud to have him as the Sharks Gm. You have to pick a direction you want the team to go. You do not want to stagnate unless you are literally at the top of the league. The moves he made ensures that we will have a top pick next year, and getting value back from contracts that are going to be deemed terrible in 2 years anyways. Can honestly say Mike Greir, since getting to the sharks, has been one of the best GM's in the league.

Imagine what Dubas or Holland would have done with this team.

The guy who paid a 1st+ for Monahan gets my vote
There is no plus unless the Jets win the Cup. Anybody would happily give out a 3rd in 2026 for a Cup.

Also, any chance you want to walk your original comment back yet?, Monahan has fit in perfectly with the Jets. He almost single handily turned the PP around, has a few game winning goals and will look great on the 2nd line with Ehlers and now Toffoli going into the playoffs. The Jets now have some of the best forward depth in the entire league and can roll all 4 lines.

A late first is about a 20% chance of being an impact player in the NHL and the Jets are already loaded with prospects. At some point a GM has to know when to go for it, and Chevy did that.

Crazy thought ,but maybe next time give it a bit to see how the players actually turns out before declaring a trade a disaster.

Doug Wilson is the one who shit the bed, Grier is the one stuck cleaning it up. Maybe he sucks, but there’s not much to judge him on yet.

I prefer sharks of smaller, diminutive stature, myself.

Any moron can strip a roster down to the bolts and accumulate picks . A Gm shouldn’t get flowers for simply tanking.

Literally the easiest thing to do.

The Sharks will be dogshit for a decade

Is he supposed to build a team out of the crap he inherited? You have to start somewhere.

Grier is getting rid of these albatross contracts left and right, and getting actual assets for them. Let him cook.
Which assets were those? He got two late 1sts for two high 3rds. Moved up the draft 30-40 spots next year and flipped a third for a guy who might be a third line center.

Smart GMs take back healthy players they can pump and flip for more capital in the future.
