Why didn’t she just hit the reply button and address the situation directly here with the poster instead of taking the route that she did? or via message to ask for clarification ?

I think "she's more comfortable with her Twitter following than she is with us, and she rides with them first and us second/third/last" is probably the simplest and most honest answer.

And if that is, in fact, the answer, then just leave us alone.

This board's urge to engage in critical analysis of the team's writers, not of their opinions, but for their writing style strikes again.

I'll never understand caring about sportswriting that deeply.

I used to be a sportswriter, so that's why I analyze her writing style. IIRC, Bleedgreen was one as well. I'm pretty sure there are a few other current or former writers on the board.

And I can't speak for the rest, but I've found it interesting how the industry standard has changed. When I was growing up, all throughout high school and college, we were taught a very strict style, because there was a difference between writing a news article and writing a blog post (for example). Much of Sara's writing wouldn't have made the cut in a lot of my classes, since she's adapted a more "blog style" tone than what would have been acceptable at the time.

Obviously, as the years passed and writing on the web went from an afterthought to mainstream, the "correct" way to write an article evolved as well. And, as already mentioned, being a good writer is no longer enough. You need a strong social media presence as well. Kudos to Sara for excelling in both regards.

Furthermore, this does not help fight sexism at all. It just creates a rift, because it is a display of power. It doesn't change people's hearts.
It's like when people shout "RACISM" (or similar) at everything while ignoring any other factors or nuance...all it does is give "justification" to opponents while devaluing and overshadowing ACTUAL instances of racism/sexism/classism/genderism (see "Boy Who Cried Wolf"). It's a convenient way to shut down conversation and invalidate someone's opinion without allowing explanation, response, or any sort of challenge (cancel culture?)...thereby "winning"

EDIT: In light of @DaveG post, this is just a general related rant and not aimed at Sara, nor do I think she in any way intentionally read sexism just so she could "cry foul". I do think she pulled the trigger on a misinterpretation of intention though (and these days interpretation >>>> intent/understanding for whatever reason). And, FWIW, I literally subscribed to the Athletic BECAUSE I enjoyed Sara's content and the style she brought to her articles there, and I think that's the case for many of us. Doesn't mean I won't occasionally be critical, dislike certain aspects of articles/opinions, or think she should defer to more of an "expert" in certain areas.

Not that i disagree with a lot of the points being made but let's not let things get too far off track of discussion here.

God knows I have a lot to say about the weaponization of social media in recent years, but let's avoid going down that rabbit hole before someone fits the description of actually saying some legitimately toxic shit that deserves to be called out. We've had our say in calling out Sara on pulling the crap that she did on Twitter.

Man, and I was just about to break out the War Giraffes :-(

The cognitive dissonance is painful right now.

You're cognitive dissonance? My today consisted of a) seeing BB called out as sexist, and at the same time b) having to drive to another town where my spouse is hobbying animal pens with her friend because they insisted on having a Man to do the mitre sawing that their project needed.

Sounds pretty sexist to me :sarcasm:

EDIT: Too late I realize that was 100% what you were getting at...the cognitive dissonance...

Go back through the history of that meme thread with a critical eye and you'll see some stuff in pretty questionable taste, and people who aren't regulars here, if that's all they see of us, could develop some ideas. That's all I'm saying.
Who the f*** comes to F26, goes to the meme thread and judges us solely by that.

But... why?

2020 found us and did us.
2020 can go right back to hell any day now.

Because the blade cover on my saw tends to stick a bit, and using it is a tad uncomfortable for an uninitiated, but mostly I guess because many people find it nice to get their tedious crap done by someone else.

Did she made it up to you yet? If yes, than it’s fine.
If not you can bring it up until she does.

I hope the Forslund negotiations would continue and any progress would get reported because because of reasons I currently don't feel too comfortable describing exactly how you need to help it with hand when working on my tool.

As a Sara defender, I'm a little disappointed that she chose to go to Twitter with this, when she could have just said "hey guys that's kinda bullshit" right here on the board. Feels like she got irritated and pulled the trigger a little quick. It's not like we're not frequently reading and dissecting her work here, and some of us paying for it. It's not like we don't know her work. We're not random internet antagonists. We're her fanbase.

I'm not saying she's wrong either. The "girls know marketing and boys know math" theme is a pervasive one, and it's wrong, and it's worth addressing. But like this? Are we part of the Canes family who can argue and maybe screw up once in a while, or are we content?

Not a big deal in the end, just a day in the life of Twitter. But a little disappointing.
I took it more as her indicating "I see what goes on here" and if there are things someone says here that they wouldn't want her to see, maybe now's a good chance to reflect on that

That very Orwellian but also very Oscar Wildish at the same time.
